Bethesda Game Studios has released a brand new January 2025 update for Fallout 76designed to distribute stability improvements across all platforms and provide even more fixes to the West Virginia region of Appalachia. Fallout 76 was released in 2018 and serves as a prequel to previous entries, set in 2102 where players control a Vault 76 resident who sets out to recolonize the open world.
January 21, 2025 was a dark day for Fall-out fans, like Fallout 76s servers were temporarily shut down to address a series of major crashes that had occurred. Players were previously led to believe that the servers would go dark for maintenance only, but Bethesda discreetly released an update at the same time. The brief server shutdown was designed to fix raid crashes and frequent game-breaking errors, and for the inconvenience, players have received an update full of fixes.

Fallout 76 could be wasting a golden opportunity with its standing at the Amazon Show
Since the Fallout show has been such a huge contributor to the franchise's recent success, Fallout 76 would be wise to acknowledge this.
Posted on Twitter, Bethesda provided a long list of patch notes for Fallout 76update for January. Some takeaways included a fix for the Scorchbeast's continuous fire, Mothman no longer whispering in the shiny depths, and to players' disappointment, a fix for super mutants dropping more caps than expected. Accessories are now displayed correctly in the Pip-Boy Currency tab, and a fix allowed the Plastiform Blue Star to be built in the camp, hopefully distracting Fallout 76 players from building controversial floating camps. The patch also included several fixes and improvements to the UI, Perks, Mods, Weapons, Quests and a number of miscellaneous issues.

Fixes to the Ash Heap region of Appalachia had a bright start to the year, building on notable changes made in Fallout 76December 2024 Gleaming Depths Update. However, some players expected one Starfield patch first. While 76 the update was generally well received, with most calling the developer out on the lack of frequent Starfield updates that they felt were previously promised, and a requirement to cross save and cross play i 76 was also present.
Although Bethesda's January update proved Fallout 76 still alive and kicking in 2025, the wastemen are also looking ahead to the next main episode in Fall-out franchise. Todd Howard confirmed that the fifth entry will be the next big project for the developer after The Elder Scrolls 6and players already have a wishlist of features they'd like to see in the new chapter, including Fall-out fan requests for a main character in Brotherhood of Steel.
