The seventh generation of consoles was a big step forward, with many innovations, including HD graphics. Another aspect that is still important to this day is the achievement system. Pioneered by Microsoft with the introduction of the Xbox 360, the achievement system would soon be adopted by PlayStation, Steam and even Newgrounds of all things.

6 Hardest Achievements to Unlock in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Indiana Jones will definitely challenge you to unearth these valuable achievements.
Achievements and trophies are important because they give developers the tools to directly communicate how they want you to play their game and what they want you to strive for. Both achievements and trophies have existed for many console generations, but which system is more satisfying, challenging, more supported and the superior?
This will be from a hardcore achievement/trophy hunter perspective, not a casual one.

Heritage
Xbox achievements
A big negative about PlayStation trophies is that Sony took far too long to implement the feature. Xbox 360 achievements came right at the system's launch on November 22, 2005, while trophies were only introduced to the PlayStation 3 in July 2008. That's almost two years after the launch of the PS3, meaning several high-profile games did not receive trophies.
Popular titles like 2008's Metal Gear Solid 4 didn't have trophies for years until a trophy patch was finally released in 2012. Legacy plays a role here, and the fact that the Xbox achievements were the originator and nearly two decades old makes the system more prestigious. It may sound ridiculous, but compare it to the value and prestige of world titles in professional wrestling. A world championship that has been around for decades will mean a lot more than a title that was introduced just five years ago.

Satisfaction
PlayStation Trophies
The distinguishing feature of trophies compared to achievements has to be platinum. Completing an Xbox game still feels really good when you get it 100 percent, but platinum trophies, especially now, just feel better. With the PlayStation 5, Sony updated the platinum trophy so that when you get one, it's a beautiful animation that arises from the ground that feels amazing.
When you 100% a challenging game like Metal Gear Solid 2 and get that Big Boss rank, PlayStation trophies are the more satisfying experience. PlayStation isn't perfect, as there are a criminal number of games that don't have platinum trophies at all, compared to Xbox, which has a whopping 1000 gamerscore for all titles since the launch of the Xbox One. Still, the PlayStation is superior here.
Tie
The achievement and trophy community is quite large, so there are some excellent third-party resources for your needs. For Xbox you have TrueAchievements, while PlayStation has PSNProfiles. Both of these are must haves for any hardcore performance or trophy hunter.

Forums for virtually every game are still active, and they're incredibly helpful when it comes to hacked achievements or technical issues like servers being messed up. The biggest gain you will use these sites for is boosting sessions, and most of the time they are a good time. Since everyone in the session wants achievements or trophies, people are incredibly helpful more often than not, as opposed to selfish, and this applies to both Xbox and PlayStation.

Challenge
Xbox achievements
Here's an aspect that people don't usually talk about because it's more of a social element between the two platforms. For PlayStation, the ultimate goal is the platinum trophy. If there are DLC trophies, the full 100 percent is more for bragging rights than anything else. On Xbox, however, a full complement means full complement. In the Xbox achievement community, you have to get a full 100 percent, making Xbox achievements much more hardcore than trophies.
Completing games like Grand Theft Auto 5 means so much more on Xbox because of how ridiculously difficult the Masterminds achievement is. To boot, PlayStation goes soft at times with games like Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, which have DLC trophies that should all have been included in the main roster. Why make platinum trophies easier to get this way when they should be for dedicated fans?

Support
PlayStation Trophies
A big negative regarding Xbox performance has to be the lack of updates. Look at the PlayStation; each console generation has different trophy systems. The PS3 was very basic, but the PS4 stepped up by taking screenshots of trophies by default, and the PS5 went even further with the nice platinum animation and a video clip of the trophy.

Here are the best video games with a fixed difficulty level!
On the other hand, Xbox has nothing new since the rare performance animation in the late 2010s. Background rewards are supported, but only a few games use them, such as Clock Tower: Rewind. The return of 0 gamerscore achievements for something like getting Master Prestige in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, earning yourself a wallpaper or a bunch of reward points would be cool to see.

Progression
PlayStation Trophies
Another great advantage of the PlayStation is its leveling system. Without any external resources, this leveling system tells the PlayStation community exactly how well you're doing on the trophy totem pole. Gamerscore on Xbox is meant to be the leveling system itself.
But the problem is that you can't judge someone's skills accurately because they can just use tons of baby games to fluff their gamerscore. You need to use resources like TrueAchievements, which has its own TrueAchievement score, for more accurate metrics. On the PlayStation, everything is built-in.

Winner
PlayStation Trophies
When you consider all the factors, PlayStation trophies come out on top. It may seem like trophies are the be-all and end-all, but for everyone out there, it's more different things to different people when it comes to your favorite system. If you love playing older games and are more of a hard, tough hardcore gamer, then Xbox achievements and its community will probably be more to your liking.
For everyone else, trophies make for a better experience with their visual presentation, leveling system, support from Sony, and even other factors like how quickly trophies pop up. On Xbox it takes some time to get achievements, but on PlayStation it's almost instant. Both are great in their own right and remain far better than Steam achievements, which are practically worthless.
