Dragon Ball Daima is no stranger to introducing new lore and details about pre-existing characters we didn't know about. After all, most of them are related to Tamagami's purpose, the Demon Realm natives, and the revelation that most alien species we know used to be Demon Realm natives in one of three demon worlds. The revelation that Shin, the Supreme Kai of Universe 7, is related to two of the antagonists, despite Shin being a Kai, is a surprise for this reason.
An even bigger surprise is that Shin is a Supreme Kai, but his origin is different than what we are used to Dragon Ball. Still, the origin of Shin is explained throughout the story of the latest anime, and there are a couple of explanations for what Kai is and who he's supposed to be.

Dragon Ball DAIMA Signals Reason for Beerus and Supreme Kai Connection
Dragon Ball DAIMA may have finally explained a critical connection between Supreme Kai and God of Destruction Beerus.
Glinden and their creation
The beginning of Kai's
To begin the origin of Shin and his kind, we must begin with the introduction to their home world, as well as the new home they made for themselves in the world outside of the Demon Realm. The other Demon World is where Glind comes from, where they are all born from the Glind Tree, much like apples to an orchard tree, and they all have varying degrees of connection to the Demon Realm. It is also the same world they shared with the Namekians before they moved to space and the mortal world, and at some point both Glinden and the Namekians left the other demon world and entered their respective home planets. Shin, and Kibito for that matter, are both called Kai's in the New World, but they are born the same way, hanging on a Glind Tree in the Other Demon World, with varying degrees of status once they move to the realm of the dead.
Shin is of course not the only Glind to become Supreme Kai, or even the only Kai. The four Kai who oversee the four directions, including King Kai, are all Glinds born from their birth tree on the planet that will be called the Sacred World of the Kais. The important detail to remember though is that while all Kai have their titles and names when they move to the Realm of the Dead. For example, Shin's real name is Nahare. Given a name from the beginning of his life, he is connected to Dr. Arinsu and Degesu, two Glind relatives who are antagonists to Dragon Ball Daima. This little detail could be important for the rest of the story, especially as we begin to learn more about the connection between Shin and the two antagonists working with the Demon King Gomah.

Shin's connection to the Demon Realm
The potential conflict
While there aren't many details about how Shin grew up in the Demon Realm yet, there are many details that suddenly make the world Dragon Ball larger than average, and Shin's connection to the demon realm alone can explain some of his types of decisions overall. After all, as the Supreme Kai, Shin is supposed to manifest the creation of planets and provide guidance to mortals, but this was only after his kind left the Demon Realm. Degesu and Arinsu don't even have the slightest sense of responsibility outside of their own kind and the Demon World, so it bears mentioning that their reactions and actions against the Z-Warriors were preemptive, if not also invasive. After all, the idea that these two would work together with Shin isn't entirely plausible due to their actions of stealing Dende and trying to weaken the Z-Fighters for fear of them being a threat. But how does this relate to Shin's connection to the Demon Realm and potential conflict?
To put it simply, Arinsu wants to use the Demon Realm Dragon Balls for himself, while Degesu works loyally with Gomah while keeping an eye on the Z-Warriors. However, Shin is the only one of the three Glind who tries to save Dende from his clutches, as well as to return things to normal in this adventure. There is a potential conflict between the family and the fact that Degesu and Arinsu are unlikely to have complete or strong ties to Shin as their relative.
It's not fully confirmed at this point, but there is some merit in understanding the potential conflict between family members in the same world. Shin's origins are revealed, and it seems he knows a lot more about the Demon Realm than the world where he is Supreme Kai. However, this works to its advantage. The beauty of how the world Dragon Ball Daima presents allows fans to feel connected and much more engaged in something mysterious and whimsical that we haven't been given since the early days of Dragon Ball. Anyway, Shin's origin is a lot more detailed than we have, but hopefully we'll get more information in the future Dragon Ball Daima.
