Important takeaways
- Capcom is asking fans if they want similar remakes like Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster for series like Devil May Cry, Dino Crisis and Okami.
- Many of these are similarly long-dormant games, so there's a glimmer of hope that Capcom will delve deep into its back catalog and bring back more than just Frank West.
Dead Rising made its long-awaited comeback last week with the Deluxe Remaster, sending us to the zombie-infested Willamette Parkview Mall once again after 18 years. But Capcom is already looking to the future, asking fans in a new survey what other games they'd like to see get the DRDR treatment.
While DRDR runs on the new RE Engine, Capcom does not consider it a remake. So these games would be 1:1 “remasters” with a new coat of paint, rather than remakes similar to Resident Evil.
At the top of the list is Dino Crisis, which Capcom revealed earlier this year is among the most requested series to bring back. But creator Shinji Mikami believes there is “no room” for the game because of… Monster Hunter. Regardless, Capcom is still gauging interest in the survival horror classic, but there are some other incredibly popular games among that survey list;
- Dino crisis
- Lost Planet
- Devil May Cry
- Power Stone
- Resident Evil
- Onimusha
- Darkstalkers
- Okay
More faithful remakes (sorry, remasters) of the classic Resident Evil games is certainly an interesting idea; we've had remakes of 2, 3 and 4, but keeping the tank controls of the classics with modern quality of life features in a new engine a la DRDR would be a great way to let people experience the originals in modern times.
Alternatively, we could see Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica gain momentum. But we have had tone of Resident Evil, so I'm sure DMC, Okami and others on that list would be more popular choices. One of our managing editors, Jade King, even wrote about how much we need an Onimusha reboottwo years since – ahead of the curve, eh?
Take this with a grain of salt
Capcom has been asking fans if Dino Crisis is coming back for years, so don't take this as a guarantee that it will happen. But Dead Rising was included in many of these surveys, so there's at least a glimmer of hope that Capcom's long-dormant game won't be stuck gathering dust forever.
We also don't know how well the Deluxe Remaster is doing yet, which will no doubt have an influence on whether Capcom pursues similar remakes. Time will tell, but if you want to join the chorus of fans clamoring for these games to finally return and get their time in the sun next, you can fill out the survey here.
