Xbox's Matt Booty has revealed that Blizzard is helping with the development of the movies going forward Fable restart. While the majority of Fables development is still handled by Playground Games, Blizzard is there to lend a helping hand in an area where the studio is well-versed in producing high-quality work.
The excitement continues to build for what's to come Fable restart. It was announced back in 2020 and is the first new game in the franchise since then Fable: The Journey in 2012. The latest part sees Forza Horizon developer Playground Games takes the reins from the now defunct Lionhead Studios, marking a brand new and exciting chapter for the franchise. The developer started in 2026 with a fresh Fable gameplay trailer, confirming its plans to launch the game later this year.
Fable fans are worried that a popular series feature will not return in the reboot
Fable fans are sharing their concerns about a popular series feature possibly not returning in the reboot.
Blizzard is helping with the Fables movie
Speaking on the Official Xbox Podcast, Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty revealed that Blizzard is currently helping create movies for Fable. The revelation came as Booty talked about how developers under the Xbox banner can help each other in their respective specialties. “We have Blizzard's film team helping out Fable. We have our studio in Montreal, Compulsion Games, with the Activision MoCap studio. We have the team at Rare with a lot of multiplayer experience working with Sea of Thieveshelps Double Fine on Oventhe pottery game.”
In isolation, Blizzard is working on Fable might seem like a weird crossover. The studio has plenty of its own projects at the moment, including the ongoing development of Diablo 4, Monitoringand World of Warcraft. But the incredible Blizzard track record over the years makes the studio a prime candidate if Playground Games needs some help in the final stretch of Fables development. It's an area where Blizzard has excelled in recent years, while Playground Games lacks experience creating cinematic RPGs. The success of Fable reboot is important to Microsoft, so it makes sense that it would turn to one of its biggest studios to help get the project over the line.
Even if Fable doesn't have an official release date yet, players are slowly starting to get a better idea of what to expect from the upcoming RPG. The reboot is expected to be fairly faithful to the previous games in the series, although there have already been some controversial changes. Notable it seems Fable is ditching co-op, a staple of the series, as well as the iconic morphing system, which transformed player characters' appearance based on their choices.

Rumors recently surfaced that Fables release date could drop to 2027 amid competition from Grand Theft Auto 6. However, the developer Playground Games has pulled back against Fables delay of rumors, which seems to confirm that the reboot is still scheduled for the fall of 2026. Given the already long wait for a new game in the series, fans will hope that the studio keeps its word and continues to be on track to launch this year.
