For the first time in a long time for the series, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has an incredibly varied campaign. Starting with a classic Call of Duty shooting and vehicle chase, Black Ops 6s campaign then turns to a sniper mission, which itself paves the way for a full Mission: Impossible-inspired espionage sequence behind enemy lines that eventually culminates in an explosive, nail-biting escape.
Unlike Modern Warfare 3 before that, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6s campaign has plenty of great action games. But surprisingly, some of Black Ops 6The best missions are actually the ones that have a slower build up of atmosphere and tension. “Emergence” is one such quest, and in many ways it feels like it's been influenced by Remedy's 2019 paranormal action game Verify.

Battlefield can and should dip its toes into a Call of Duty mode that has skyrocketed in popularity
Battlefield and Call of Duty have always had a bit of a rivalry, but there's one CoD multiplayer mode that the next Battlefield might want to copy.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's 'Emergence' feels inspired by Remedy's control
Six missions in progress Call of Duty: Black Ops 6Its campaign, 'Emergence', sees Marshall and the rest of his team of rogue agents investigate a seemingly abandoned CIA research facility in Kentucky, believed to be the birthplace of a mysterious bioweapon called 'The Cradle'. As the player and character Case enter the facility, he falls down an elevator shaft, leaving them isolated at the bottom of the facility after inhaling a mysterious green gas.
“Emergence” has similar environmental themes to control
After prying open a nearby door, players will find themselves in the hub of this underground research facility, and fans of Remedy's Verify can start to notice some similarities right away with the game's Federal Bureau of Control setting. Mysterious logos are plastered on locked doors and hanging flags, large statues of unknown figures tower above the player in the main atrium, and gaudy wood paneling covers nearly every wall.
The floors in the atrium are either deep blue that has been polished to a shine, or an orange carpet that wears its own Brilliant affects its sleeve. Janitor buckets and mops litter the floor, and although the area is clearly abandoned, the bright white lights hanging from the ceiling and walls remain lit. VerifyThe FBC headquarters has very similar architecture and landscape.
'Emergence' borrows some of Control's mind-bending atmosphere
While in 2019 Verify is not a full-fledged horror game, it has plenty of unsettling moments, many of which embrace themes of paranormal and supernatural horror. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6s 'Emergence' mission follows Verifys footsteps in this regard as well.
After being exposed to the mysterious Cradle bioweapon, Black Ops 6s player character suffers from extreme hallucinations during “Emergence”. These hallucinations range from mild jump scares, like a wheelchair rolling down the hallway by itself, to more visceral, violent illusions, like an army of undead scientists and construction workers chasing the player through the abandoned hallways.
The player character's hallucinations in “Emergence” also cause the environment to shift unnaturally around them, and when they pick up a ringing phone, they can hear their repressed memories as if they were happening again. Verify features many of the same paranormal events, and it has plenty of similarly mind-bending moments, such as the infamous Ashtray Maze that sees player-character Jesse Faden navigate a series of shifting walls and passages.
