Black Ops 6 Zombies' Melee Macchiato isn't a top-shelf drink, but it should be

Zombies experience of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 comes with a huge amount of new content for players to enjoy, and this works well alongside Treyarch's attempt to make the mode more traditional in the recently released title. This new version of Zombies comes with a returned focus on classic turn-based combat and central playable characters tied to an overarching story, with a plethora of new gameplay additions that really make the mode an engaging experience overall.

Of course, Zombies in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 features many of the iconic gameplay mechanics from the mode's long history, with things like the Mystery Box and Pack a Punch Machine making welcome returns across the mode's two starting maps, Liberty Falls and Terminus. One of the most synonymous parts of Call of Duty Zombies experience is the concept of benefits, however, and Black Ops 6 does not shy away from fully embracing and building on this aspect of the mode. A brand new benefit with an exciting premise has been introduced with Black Ops 6called Melee Macchiato, and while it's fun in its current state, some future changes could allow the privilege to battle with the giants of the wider franchise.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies finally solves one of the mode's most infamous Wonder weapons

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Zombies brings some familiar Wonder Weapons back to the fore, finally giving an infamous weapon the glow it deserves.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Melee Macchiato needs a gentle push to become a great zombie perk

The concept of benefits existed from the beginning Call of Duty Zombies, which are a staple of the mode's first ever iteration in the 2008s World at war. Purchased with points earned from killing zombies, perks are a must-have purchase in everyone Cod Zombies matches for players who want to survive to the more difficult higher rounds that the mode offers.

Perks can give players a variety of game buffs like increased health, faster reload speed, or even the ability to revive oneself in solo play, and it's hard for newer perks to reach the same level of purpose, use, and reputation as the original Cod Zombie perks have accumulated over the years. In addition to its well-received return to classic Zombies games, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has boldly introduced a brand new perk to the battle known as Melee Macchiato.

Once purchased for 2500 points, Melee Macchiato replaces the player's melee attack with a powerful punch, which is one of the only perks that has a dedicated focus on the melee aspect of Cod Zombies. Melee Macchiato can therefore be a great way to save ammo or get out of a tight spot when reloading or cornering, with the power of the punch having the ability to send zombies flying at lower rounds.

Greater vitality at higher rounds could make Black Ops 6's Melee Macchiato a Game Changer

The Melee Macchiato perk machine even swings punches with comical boxing gloves when a purchase is made, killing any zombies near it and providing a level of charm that allows it to compete more with the mode's more classic and entrenched perks. That said, the perk has a long cooldown between its main attacks, with its damage also being much less profitable with the increased toughness and frequency of Cod enemies at higher rounds.

Without having to rely on improving the advantage through Black Ops 6s Zombies expand system, Treyarch could easily tweak Melee Macchiato to reduce this cooldown, while increasing the perk's melee damage to make it viable in the higher rounds. It's great to see brand new perks added to Zombies, especially ones that target often-neglected areas of combat, and some post-launch tweaks to Melee Macchiato could make it a clear contender for the usual four-perk limit.
