Best terrible RPGs you should play

Although some of the most iconic and best games of all time are JRPG like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 7, the genre has a good handful of less well -received titles. Many of these are not necessarily bad. Some are just dated or have poor location in places, but that doesn't mean they're not a great way to spend a couple of dozen hours.

Whether it is inheritance games that are far too difficult to play for enjoyment or have a bad story associated with them, these games are still fun to play, even if they didn't get the biggest reviews.

Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth

Omnimon defends Keisuke from Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth Hackers Memory.

This one hurts a bit because I absolutely love this game, but I can't deny the problems this JRPG has. Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth is probably one of the best Digimon games ever made, but its flaws are pretty brilliant.

The story is incredible and the characters, although they are sometimes well written. However, before the complete edition was released, some of Digimon was so overwhelmed that you could break the game and destroy all the difficulties. Not to mention the terrible location in part of the dialog.

If you want to play this, then take hold of the entire edition, as it contains the sequel, the memory of the hackers.

Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne

Nocturne is really loved in Shin Megami Tensei community, and although it is a fantastic game, some of the difficulties are notorious too much sometimes. A hard game is always a fun and interesting challenge, but when you are repeatedly thrown to RNG's mercy, it may have your experience a little.

This game created the standard for what a Shin Megami Tensei game should be, but to die to a random meeting that surpasses you and kills you immediately with Mudo.

Final Fantasy 14th Realm Reborn

Sure, this is the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 which has a free test up to level 70, but the first 80 hours of the base game is such a job to get through. Final Fantasy 14 is one of my favorite games of all time, but it is always so difficult to recommend to friends as it requires such a great deal of commitment from them.

The base game gets you familiar with so many of the systems that exist all over, but there is so much more to the world by Eorzea, that an area that is reborn does not do it justice. You have to put a lot of work to get to the good parts.

Tales of hearts r

Cows hold up their sword in the forest in Tales of Hearts R.

The Tales series is home to some of the most beloved JRPGs of all time. People are still talking about Tales of Symphonia to this day. This does not mean that every individual of the information is a guaranteed hit. Tales of Hearts was originally released on Nintendo DS, and while the White remake looks remarkably better, its mediocre story and characters cannot save it.

This was one of the first games I ever bought for my white, but getting through it was a bit struck. Not because the game was bad, but because the cows meteor is such an unbearable protagonist.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

The coach takes a selfie with Chien-Pao in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have been criticized for no end due to how it performed at Nintendo Switch, but with Switch 2 now the game looks better than ever. It still has some of the problems seen in the previous console, but it does not remove how cool alive in Palda was.

Say what you will do about newer Pokemon games, but if you grew up with the series, nothing will beat the funny little creatures running around the open world. In addition, the Switch 2 upgrade patch really helps to facilitate the biggest problems.

Lost sphear

The main part attacks a group of enemies in a field in lost sphear

Tokyo RPG Factory was one of the best decisions that Square Enix has made in recent years. Creating a whole division that is dedicated to creating games that develop the Golden Age for JRPGS is what fans have asked for.

Unfortunately, most of their game missed the brand or flew under the radar for most JRPG fans. Lost Sphear was a little forgetful, but its tribute to older JRPG combat systems and mechanics makes it a valuable experience if you lack that style of grindy adventure.

Final Fantasy 13

The lightning sits with your legs crossing while holding a sword.

Players generally agree that Final Fantasy 13 is the worst of the group. While they are mostly correct, lightning strikes and the rest of the role have a special place in my heart. The story is compulsory enough to continue playing, although it is not mandatory enough to guarantee two mediocre sequels.

It was probably because of the long development cycle, plus hype that led to the release, which disappointed most Final Fantasy fans, but compared to other JRPGs, 13 is a fun time for the active time combat system.

Hyper dimension Neptune

Nepgear speaks in Neptunia Sisters vs Sisters.

Neptunia gets a pretty bad rope among players, but if you look past the barely dressed characters it is a relatively fun time. Idea Factory is known for this type of game, and while their catalog meets or misses, Neptunia is an interesting JRPG to bury a couple of dozen hours in.

If you don't mind the open early 2000s anime aesthetics, and you love a good tough Easter egg and Otaku culture, Neptunia will be a good time for you.

Final fantasy

Lightier discovers the dormant crystal in Final Fantasy 3.

As much as I love the original Final Fantasy I can really say it's not a good game. It is actually fantastic, but it is quite dated, which makes it a struggle to get through. The game is quite short if you know what you are doing, but half the time you will wrestle with millions of random meetings.

The game suffers from the “old game is old” curse, but if you know how final fantasy games generally work, and you realize that the game is just a pen-and-paper-rpg in video game form, you will be able to experience one of the most important games in history.

Destiny/Extella: The umbrella star

Special attack from fate Extella cut enemies.

The Fate series has a ridiculous amount of Lore that I can't start explaining, especially with a single list. If you want to get acquainted with some of the most complicated parts of the series while playing a half decent Musou style game, Extella is a pretty good time.

However, do not expect fully developed and complicated JRPG systems from Extella. At best, you get a couple of hours of fun hack-and-slash with some of your favorite characters from the fate series.
