Since the boom in the 80s, the slasher genre has been slow. Due to how popular the genre became, it was slowly over -saturated with cheap movies that want to get money into the trend. But in recent years, Slasrare has been given a new life in life and is slowly arising. Here are just a few modern horror lengths that show that the genre is completely back and ready for fresh blood.

Directed by Damien Leone, the terrain films are undoubtedly some of the most popular in the genre. They enclose perfectly how a modern Slasher movie looks like.

After Leone's original film, All Hallows' Eve (2013), introduced us for art, he decided to put the scary clown in the limelight with the first horror movie (2016). In the first film, art stalks and kill three women on the Halloween night. Because of how the grotesque movie is and how stupid art clown acts, it quickly got media attention.

To manage time, the group decides to play a game that quickly goes terribly wrong. Now they are forced to reveal if anyone among them is not the ones they say they are. It is a funny movie that turns the slasher genre into the 1900s, perfect for a generation that is chronically online.

In a violent nature

Have you ever wanted to watch a horror movie from the murderer's perspective? With a violent character you can finally. Shooting mainly from a first personal perspective follows the movie Johnny's vengeful spirit when he resurfaces after a group of teenagers take a lid from a collapsed fire tower in the forest. Now Johnny is about to get back what was stolen from him, as well as his revenge from 60 years ago.

It is reminiscent of the oblique from the old, especially Friday the 13th series, as this movie also has a camp setting. But setting the main perspective from the killer is a whole new idea for the genre and makes a fantastic watch through.

RL Stine is among one of the horror boundaries. For many, his novels were the step in the genre. While many people know about Stine for their Goosebumps books, it was actually The Fear Street series that helped him get his start.

Although the films are a whole new hold of the series, they perfectly capture the spirit of the novels. The first movie follows a teenager and her friends are forced to take on an evil force that is hung over their city for centuries. It hits the same beats as a typical Slasher movie, but the iconic murderers are what makes the film. There are three films in the series so far, all with different characters and a brand new list of murderers.

Sometimes you just have to take things old school and go back to the good days. In Totally Killer you get to relive the heyday in the 80s – only with some masked serial murder running around.

35 years after the brutal murders of three teenagers, a masked killer on the Halloween night returns to demand a fourth victim. After 17-year-old Jamie comes face to face with the madman, she is somehow back in 1987. As she navigates through the unknown time, Jamie collaborates with her teenage mother to take down the killer to prevent the murders from ever happening. It has some fantastic calls for the decade that started the Slasher genre and is a fantastic original concept.

Maxxxin

Ti Wests X trilogy took the internet by storm. Following the release of X (2022) and Pearl (2022), the fans eagerly waited the final part of Maxine Minx's story and in 2024 we finally received the epic conclusion we were waiting for.

While the original films are not categorized as a slasher, the third film fully encompasses its slasher roots. It was set in the 1980s Hollywood and Maxine Minx has finally got their big break on the big screen. But soon Los Angeles is directed by a masked man who leaves a trace of star -studded star in his bloody path. Mix soon realizes that it is not so easy to leave her past behind. It is not only a big conclusion for the series, but it also helps to bring slasracers back to its roots.

They/them

Horror has always seen queer stories presented more prominently than any other genre. It has been used to express queer identities, both explicitly and through subtitle. But with them there is very little subtitle to strain through.

The film has the typical summer camp setting that we are used to in the genre, but this time the story has a role of open queer characters. After being forced to go to an LGBTQ+ transformation camp, a group of teens can withstand various worrying psychological techniques while being persecuted by a mysterious masked killer. Although it is amazing that the movie has queer characters, there are some things that the movie is wrong. Still, it's a new time at Slaslars that we should celebrate.

Thanksgiving

Although Halloween is the best time for horror movies, other horror movies with holidays with large editions have seen large editions. From Christmas to New Year, there is usually a horror movie that comes with a holiday. But there was a gap for a holiday that the legendary director Eli Roth decided to fill.

Already in 2007, Roth created a fictional trailer for his movie Grindhouse. In the trailer, the horror movie follows a serial killer aimed at a small town in Massachusetts on Thanksgiving, all while he is dressed like a pilgrim and wears a John Carver mask. Years later he finally got the chance to make his movie. The wait was well worth it and there are some funny pieces with even more memorable kills.

After the trend of horror movies with holiday theme, it is a wonderful knife is a playful twist on classic Christmas history. There are horror icons like Justin Long and Katherine Isabelle in the film and it has a large masked killer with an even better character design.

After saving her city from a psychotic murderer on Christmas Eve, Winnie Carruther's life takes a quick trip for the worst. She wishes she was never born and is magically transported to a nightmare parallel the universe where the killer was never stopped. Now she has to find a way to get back to her own reality and at the same time stop the killer for a second time.
