While microtransactions, map sizes, and colorful skins make up the bulk of the community's gripes with Battlefield 6, there are also those who have complained about servers filled with bots. This is something that Dice had announced would happen if servers take too long to fill, but some players just aren't happy about it.
In fact, the complaints have become so incessant that lead producer David Sirland created a lengthy Twitter thread to explain why some players have encountered so many bots, despite the game's massive player count. Basically, bots are the alternative to waiting forever for the server to fill up.
Here's why you see so many bots in Battlefield 6
“Clearly there is confusion about what makes bots in-game in BF6,” Sirland tweeted. “Let's break it down. Bots ONLY enter the game on regular playlists under these conditions: players kickstart a lobby for a playlist, and the pre-round takes longer than X minutes (I think 3 minutes). At that point, the bots fill the server to the necessary limit to start the game.”
He noted that since it's a specific playlist in a specific region, the game starts with bots to ensure you're not waiting forever. As players from that region begin to trickle into the roster, they will replace the bots in the game. When there are 24 players per team, bots will no longer be seeded.
“The alternative to doing this would be a lot of waiting (possibly forever) to play the playlist of your choice in low population regions,” Sirland added. “But to fill a server (the first in the region) – you have to stay with the bots.” But if you leave because you only see bots, it's because you're first, and you're not letting the whole process play out.
“You'll have to wait it out (or at least give it a minute or two, or however many you're willing to try and wait). We can and will test longer waits for the seedbots to kick in, but please spread the word!”
