As first reported by GameRadar, several industry analysts have provided an assessment of GTA 6's overall delay and adds insight which speaks to the impact the game would have created if it was released as planned.

Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of the Japanese consulting company Kantan Games, talked about the impact that the delay will have on other studios and says that these studios “probably breathe with relief now: no more danger that GTA 6 takes oxygen out of the room anymore.”

With GTA efficient to create a void during the year, Toto Nintendo and Switch 2 can make 2025 their own. “Now Nintendo has half a year to prepare and market a potentially large holiday line,” he said partly.

Elsewhere, Joost van Dreunen, professor at Nyu School of Business, echoed many of these points and added, “without GTA 6 who sucks the air out of the room, the fourth quarter got just a little more breathing for everyone else.”

Van Dreunen also talked about Rockstar's own way of thinking about the delay and noted that it is an estimated effort. “The delay is not a stumble – it's Rockstar that does what it always does: Waiting for the perfect moment. The GTA 6 now lands in May 2026, giving it a larger installation base, less competition and total narrative control.”

“So GTA 5 also managed to achieve its success.”

In the end, there will be on the publishers and developers who remain to generate their own buzz without GTA to do it for them, according to the analysts. But it gives them a new lane that would otherwise not have existed. Which is to say that the influence GTA 6 has had and will have in the industry is almost incredible.
