All Pokemon Sun and Moon's Cut Pokemon explained

Important takeaways

  • Pokemon Gen 7 had many cut regional forms and new Pokemon, including several scrapped Alolan forms.
  • Mimikyu version-exclusive forms were planned for Pokemon Sun and Moon, but never materialized, much like two fossil Pokemon.
  • An unreleased Ultra Beast named Mozzura was supposed to appear in the 20th Pokémon movie.

The Pokémon franchise has always seen leaks and data mines floating around the internet or even in paper form when CoroCoro shared Pokémon news, but last month saw the single largest leak in the series' history due to a hacker attack against Game Freak. Each generation of Pokémon games appeared in the leaked documents, although not all games had meaningful disclosures. Pokemon sun and moon and Gen 7 as a whole featured heavily in the so-called Teraleak, revealing all kinds of ins and outs in the games – from Mimikyu's true form to the various clipped Pokémon and forms that Gen 7 was originally planned to include.

Pokémons regional forms were first added in Gen 7. They became immensely popular since then, partly thanks to the focus on Cantonese animals, and partly because this concept breathed new life into several evolutionary lines. Even if Pokemon sun and moon introduced a total of 18 regional forms to the series, more were originally planned or at least considered by Game Freak, and it's not even limited to just regional forms. At least three brand new Pokémon were created for Gen 7 but were later scrapped, presumably never to return.

Each Pokemon Sun and Moon Cut Regional Form

Why Pokemon Gen 7's Cut Regional Forms Should Return

Pokemon sun and moon would have at least five additional Alolan regional forms, or these were at least considered before being cut for some reason. These are as follows:

  • Electric/Rock – Rhyhorn
  • Water/Fairy – Seel
  • Water/Fairy – Dewgong
  • Bug/Fairy – Scyther
  • Fighting – Snorlax

Considering both Rhyhorn and Scyther have evolutions and Snorlax has a pre-evolution, it seems likely that if these regional forms were greenlit, fans would have had a few more. These include Rhydon, Rhyperior, Scizor and Munchlax.

The entire Rhydon line could have been Electric/Rock in terms of type combinations, and it would have served as a nice juxtaposition to the Geodude line, whose Alolan forms were all Ground/Electric. The leaked cut form of Scyther could have given fans another Steel/Fairy Pokemon, one of the best type combinations in Pokémon game, where Scizor supposedly lost his Bug type in favor of Steel. A Fighting-type Snorlax, and possibly Munchlax, would also have been interesting to see. Seel and Dewgong were probably the least likely to be in Gen 7, as they would have had the same type as Primarina, and possibly even a similar design, so it makes sense why they were cut.

Mimikyu's Cut Version-Exclusive Forms Explained

In addition to these cut regional forms, Pokemon sun and moon were planned to have two version-exclusive forms of Mimikyu dressed as other Pokémon, although there are no clues within Teraleak as to what these forms might have been based on. Given that they were planned to be version exclusives, it would have made sense to base them on Gen 7 critters that could only be found in each game.

Pokemon's Cut Alola Fossils Explained

The Alola region was also initially considered a potential home for two new fossil Pokémon, which would have been version exclusives. One would be Rock/Water, and the other a rock-type Pokemon with some secondary type that had yet to be decided. Considering these clipped Gen 7 Pokemon weren't even fully conceptualized, it's likely they'll never see the light of day.

Pokemon Gen 7's Cut Movie Ultra Beast Explained

Finally, Pokemon sun and moon – or possibly Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon – was supposed to have an extra Ultra Beast that was never released. Not much is known about this Pokemon, other than the fact that it was probably called “Mozzura” and it was supposed to appear on the 20th Pokémon Film.

This Ultra Beast was reportedly bipedal with wings, as seen in this leak.
