Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog's “stunning reimagining” of the original Tomb Raider is slated to launch on February 12, 2027, and Lara Croft herself has an exciting update on how the project is coming along.
“So I just finished the last official session of the Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis main game, which feels big and feels emotional,” Alix Wilton Regan wrote on Instagram. “I mean this journey started in 2022, and it's now the tenth of July 2026, so it's a big leap. There will be pickups, there will be bugs to fix, but wow, what a milestone.”
Meet The New Lara Croft
We can only speculate what that might mean for the game's progress, but Legacy of Atlantis is likely now playable from start to finish, with the team ready to squash bugs in post-production. As for Regan, it's hard to fault her enthusiasm – it's an incredibly exciting milestone. Legacy of Atlantis marks her first outing as Lara Croft, taking over from Camilla Luddington's run in the Survivor trilogy as one of the game's most iconic characters. And she doesn't stop with the remake.
Regan will also play Lara Croft in the upcoming Catalyst, an all-new adventure set across northern India where “the ancient world collides with the present.” Through the game, Crystal Dynamics is trying to put together a “unified timeline”, which means that Legacy of Atlantis is both a remake and a sequel of sorts to the Survivor trilogy, while Catalyst – the latest entry in the series and the latest chronologically – takes place years after the events of Underworld, putting it before the Legacy trilogy.
Regan has already spoken openly about her time as Croft, and how she hopes to put her own stamp on the character. Bringing back the 'unapologetic' confident snark of the '90s, she has expressed that this Lara is for “the girls, the guys, [and] gay.” In an interview with TheGamer last year, Regan said there was initial “terror” about bringing Lara Croft to life and stepping into those monumental shoes, but that she combated those fears by diving “really heavy” into the wealth of history and history about the character. “I asked for the Tomb Raider encyclopedia,” they said, “And they sent me an encyclopedia.”
