The Tailed Beasts were a significant part of Naruto series, and the entire story centered around the power emanating from these mythical and monstrous entities. At the end of Narutoon November 10, 2014, Naruto Uzumaki had befriended all the Tailed Beasts, and they were free to roam the world at this point.
Unfortunately, after this point, the Tailed Beasts began to lose their importance in the franchise. When Boruto series began, the vast majority of the focus was on Kurama. Unfortunately, through new power systems like Karma, the tailed beasts began to lose their importance. Thankfully, the second part of the Boruto series, titled Two blue Vortexeshas officially revived the Tailed Beast plotline in a unique way by giving them human incarnations. Now, all Tailed Beasts have been given renewed importance in the series, with a bright future that we absolutely cannot wait to witness.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex officially brings back the Biju with new “Human Tailed Beasts” system
The concept of a human tailed beast was first officially mentioned in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 14, which was officially released in V-jump Number 11 on September 20, 2024. At the time, this idea was foreign to Boruto series as well as the Naruto series, but since then it has started to make a lot of sense. This system was officially introduced with Jura, the creation of Code during the timeskip. Using the Shinjutsu of Claw Marks on Tailed Beasts, Code led to the creation of miniature entities known as Claw Grimes. Like the tailed beasts, they essentially run for the nearest chakra source. By absorbing chakra from other shinobi, they eventually went on to gain sentience. While most Claw Grimes are just copies of various shinobi, Jura, the strongest of them all, was very different.
“Jura is a special case. Unlike the others, he has no prototype. He is a direct incarnation of the Ten Tails, and the one who rules this crisis we are facing right now.” — Boruto Uzumaki Explains Human Tailed Beast Jura Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #14
It was officially confirmed in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 14 that Jura was an incarnation of the Ten Tails themselves. In other words, Jura is a sentient form of Ten-Tails with a human body and a brain with the capacity for continuous growth, both in terms of intellect and emotions. This makes him doubly special as a villain in Boruto franchise, and it also brings renewed meaning to the Ten-Tails.
The Human Tailed Beast System was officially expanded when it was confirmed that, like Jura, Himawari is also a Human Tailed Beast or a human incarnation of a Tailed Beast. After Kurama's death in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter 55, released on February 19, 2021, fans knew that Kurama would eventually reincarnate. In Two Blue Vortex, it was confirmed that Kurama had reincarnated inside Himawari. However, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 25, which was released on August 20, 2025, officially confirmed to us that Himawari is not a Tailed Beast Jinchuriki. Instead, she is more like Jura. In other words, Kurama and Himawari are one entity, and Himawari is simply a humanoid Tailed Beast.
“You're no ordinary Shinobi. In fact, you're even a bit different from the Jinchuriki…those who have the tailed beast in them. You're human, but if anything, you're more like me and Jura.” – Kurama explains why Himawari is not a Jinchuriki, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #25
As for how this system differs from the previous Jinchuriki system from Naruto, which was officially introduced in Chapter 216 on June 13, 2005, the answer is quite simple: Human tailed Beasts have much more synergy between human and beast, and as such, can bring out much more power than a Jinchuriki ever could. The growth between the two is much faster, and the level of strength they can put out is much higher.
This was officially confirmed by Kurama i Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #10, where he said that Himawari is even more compatible with him than Naruto, and that they can bring out much more energy in the future when his powers are fully mastered. In a way, this is Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto's way of reviving the Jinchuriki system but scaling it up to a threat on the level of the Tailed Beasts and Otsutsuki.
“I can sense that your chakra has a higher affinity to mine, more so than any predecessor of yours. More so than even Naruto's. So get rid of all your foolish preconceived notions. You must believe in yourself.” — Kurama explains Himawari's potential as a Human Tailed Beast, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #10

Boruto officially releases a Kekkei Genkai stronger than the Rinnegan
The Rinnegan is a divine power that has unfortunately been nerfed and surpassed by a new Kekkei Genkai in the Boruto series.
Why Gyuki could be the next tailed beast to have a human incarnation
At the moment, there are only two human-tailed beasts in the Boruto series, but with time, more of them will most likely appear. Next in line may be Gyuki, the 8 Tailed Beast, who currently resides within Killer Bee. As it stands, Killer Bee is the last remaining Jinchuriki in the Boruto world, and considering he's old now, he probably doesn't have much longer. Mikio Ikemoto can take two different approaches with Gyuki:
-
Killer Bee could get a significant power-up and turn into a Human Tailed Beast somehow.
-
Killer Bee can potentially be killed, and then, after Gyuki is revived, it can come back as a human tailed beast, as was the case with Kurama and Himawari.
Either approach would be fine by the fans, but they would rather have Killer Bee engage with the story and respect the Naruto series again. Either way, the remaining Tailed Beasts will likely follow a similar pattern, and we absolutely can't wait to see these powerful beasts show off their immense abilities on the battlefield as a war against the Otsutsuki looms in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.
“It's about time I start hunting you filthy monsters.” — Madara Uchiha before beating all 9 Tailed Beasts, Naruto Chapter #657
Boruto's new Human Tailed Beast Power System officially upgrades the old system
Right now, 7 of the 9 Tailed Beasts that exist in the Naruto world are roaming free. However, should some misfortune befall them later, they may be forced to team up with capable humans to create human-tailed beasts. In another scenario, if they were to die, they could come back as Human Tailed Beasts, fully completing the new Power System and introducing unique new characters with massive powers up their sleeves, expanding the cast of the Boruto franchise in the process.
As it stands, this humanoid tailed beast system is incredibly versatile and expansive and can be used by the author in a variety of ways, whether it's to create unique enemies or to strengthen the cast of the Boruto series. The biggest factor with this new system is that it officially upgrades the Jinchuriki's old powers. In the Fourth Great Ninja War, the Jinchuriki were revealed to be very limited in what they could do when facing the likes of the Ten Tails and Otsutsuki. This is exactly why the Human Tailed Beasts exist, as their power officially makes the Tailed Beasts effective against the top tiers of the Boruto-verse.
We absolutely cannot wait to see all nine human-tailed beasts in the future in Boruto. If Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto want to expand the system beyond just the Ten Tails and Nine Tails, the Boruto story will be much more expansive and interesting, with massive lore and world building to go along with it.
The latest chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex by Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto are available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
