Then released in 2022, Fire Ring has already received a highly ranked DLC, Shadow of the Erdtreewith another game set in its universe coming in the near future.
During the launch year, Fire Ringwhich chronicles Tarnished's adventures across the mysterious world of the Lands Between, generated significant revenue and received several major accolades – including winning multiple Game of the Year awards. In June 2024, it is highly anticipated Shadow of the Erdtree the expansion received widespread acclaim and further boosted sales of the base game, reviving player interest in the fantasy title. More recently, at The Game Awards 2024, FromSoftware presented yet another Fire Ring universe game – a spin-off of the title Ring of Fire: Nightreign— Gives fans more to be excited about. Around the same time, the Japanese studio also provided updated sales of the original game, giving a look at its continued popularity.

On December 13, FromSoftware revealed that Fire Rings latest sales figures reached 28.6 million units sold, in September 2024. This follows Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice the developer's announcement in mid-June, which said the 2022 game had sold 25 million copies by then. In other words, it means that Fire Ring moved an additional 3.6 million copies over a period of about three months, on the back of Shadow of the Erdtrees strong showing. In fact, the glittering success of Fire Rings DLC also saw it receive multiple nominations at The Game Awards 2024, including in the Game of the Year category that had previously been off limits to non-standalone titles.

The updated sales figures give an insight into the continued interest in Fire Ringeven over two years after launch. Fortunately, for FromSoftware, this positive trend looks set to grow further as fans get closer to the launch of Ring of Fire: Nightreignwhich is the first Fire Ring project to avoid being directed by studio head Hidetaka Miyazaki. The reins of the spin-off game – slated for a 2025 release – are in the hands of director Junya Ishizaki instead, suggesting fans could see a new approach to the IP.
In particular, Ring of Fire: Nightreigns most important difference from before Fire Ring titles have already been revealed to be its survival cooperative nature. Ishizaki has also previously talked about how Night rule will not be similar to live service games that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguedespite being an online multiplayer title. While anticipation for the game has begun to build since the big reveal, if the new spin on Fire Rings world will have similar success to previous FromSoftware titles is anyone's guess at this point.
