Destiny 2 is officially disabling two armor sets permanently

The official one Destiny 2 account on Twitter shared a post that two sets of armor have been disabled to prevent problems, and they may never be reactivated again. Destiny 2 is unfortunately facing a permanent end of service after its final hotfix, which is likely to arrive on Tuesday, July 7th, which also happens to be Bungie Day. The patch was scheduled to ship this week on June 30, but the layoffs at Bungie made it difficult to make any final changes to the game in time.

Destiny 2s last update, called Monument of Triumph, added a lot of new content to the game's patrol destinations and existing activities. This made the game arguably the healthiest it has ever been, but not even the success Destiny 2s last update moved the needle at Bungie or Sony. In fact, Sony released a statement about Destiny 2 and Bungie, the layoffs at the company and the future of Marathon. This was followed up by another announcement where Sony commented on its interest in live service gaming, which did not land well with fans after Destiny 2s death and several studio closings in recent memory.

Destiny 2 is going into hibernation, ahead of the end of service, which means that current issues may never be fixed.

Say goodbye to those armor sets in Destiny 2

  • Grab the Avarice Dungeon 4-Part Bonus: Overflowing coffers
  • Duality Dungeon 4 part bonus: Bittersweet

Just an hour ago, the official Twitter account shared a post stating that the 4-piece armor comes from Destiny 2's Monument of Triumph update is disabled in the Crucible (all PvP activities) due to being over-tuned and causing issues. Normally, this would mean reactivating the items at a later date with fixed values and/or with other perks, but since Bungie has canceled almost all Destiny 2 development team, there will be no support whatsoever for the game going forward. Due to the items being too strong in the Crucible, the only option for the team at Bungie right now is to disable them. So starting next week (or when the final hotfix comes out), these armor set bonuses will no longer work in PvP for the rest of Destiny 2s lifespan.

The Grasp of Avarice 4-piece set gave players a way to get more ability energy from elemental pickups, while turning stacks of Untold Greed into an equivalent number of Orbs of Power when the player's shields were broken. This allowed a group of Stasis Titans to spam their Supers by generating an incredible amount of Stasis Shards and turning them into Orbs of Power, essentially giving each other infinite super energy in the Crucible. This is perhaps one of the best armor sets Destiny 2and will continue to work in PvE.

Similar, Destiny 2s Duality Dungeon armor set will also work in PvE, but it is permanently disabled in PvP. This is because the 4-piece bonus gave health regeneration based on the number of Built Bitter stacks when a weapon is stowed, essentially giving players a way to quickly gain stacks in PvP and then heal them and survive where it wouldn't normally be possible.

As mentioned in the post, Bungie will not be able to work on fixing these armor sets in PvP due to the abrupt and complete end of support for Destiny 2. As such, fans must expect that both the Grasp of Avarice armor set and the Duality armor set will never work again in the Crucible.
