Overwatch offers players loot boxes and rewards in new in-game event

Season 3 of Monitoring is underway, and there's a new Venture Excavation Initiative Event that can give players tons of loot boxes if they log in and play every week this season. Monitoring is back on the rise this year after a total rebrand and return to the basics that fans have deemed essential to the game's identity.

After a tough 2025, Monitoring has started to steer the ship in the right direction, and the fans are taking notice. In 2026, the game was changed back to just getting the title Monitoringand it brought back Loot Boxes, which fans felt were essential to the game's progression and identity, now reworked with better drop rates and completely free. Of course, it has not been without problems, viz Monitorings Anniversary Event, which fell flat with fans, but overall the game is in a good place as it launches Season 3.

During the limited-time Overwatch Anniversary Event, Blizzard is reducing the gate in its challenge system, giving fans a better chance at a rare title.

Overwatch launches Venture's Excavation Initiative Event, with 17 loot boxes to find

As part of Overwatch's Launching Season 3, Blizzard has started the Venture Excavation Initiative Event, where fans can earn a total of 17 Loot Boxes, along with 1 Epic and 1 Legendary Loot Box. Fans can earn these rewards by simply logging in Monitoring and win one game per day for three consecutive days to complete a “dig” and earn a loot box, giving players two Loot Boxes per week for the most dedicated players. For players who really want to go the extra mile, Blizzard is offering an Epic Loot Box to anyone who completes four digs this season, and a Legendary Loot Box to fans who complete six digs at the end of the season. Fans who want to join the Venture Excavation Initiative Event have until the end of Monitorings Season 3 on August 11, 2026 to get as many Loot Boxes as possible.

Monitorings new Venture-themed event isn't the only thing players should look out for early in the season. Right now, the hero shooter is hosting its Anima Strike event until July 6, giving players the opportunity to earn up to 18 Loot Boxes, 3 Epic Loot Boxes, and 3 Legendary Loot Boxes as they complete challenges across the new Neon Junction map that takes place in Tokyo. In addition, starting June 30, Monitoring is launching its Community Crafted Arcade event, which will change the way certain heroes play. And to kick off a great season of content, the latest Monitoring the hero has arrived.

When it comes to new heroes, Monitoring has introduced a very interesting character this season, which fans may want to log back in for. Monitoring's Hero 52 was revealed to be a DPS character who rides a motorcycle with dual guns, called the Shion. Shion is practically a one-woman bullet storm on a bike who can zigzag behind enemy lines to gain an advantage. Fan reception to the new character has been incredibly positive, with some fans on Reddit even saying she's the best character Blizzard has released in a long time.

right now, Monitoring is in a good place and Season 3 seems to be doing a lot of things right. Developer communication is at its best in a while, while the in-game events and character releases seem to be hitting the spot with fans. About recently Monitoring hero leaks are to be believed, there are also some very interesting characters coming to the hero shooter soon, meaning there will be plenty more to celebrate in the coming months as the game continues its year of redemption.
