A new rumor has surfaced that suggests so Grand Theft Auto 6 could get a physical disc release as early as December 2026. As it currently stands, the only physical version of Grand Theft Auto 6 which fans can pre-order does not contain a disc, but instead comes with just a code in a box.
After years of waiting it seems Grand Theft Auto 6 finally locked in a release date for good. And ahead of its November 19th release date, fans around the world can now pre-order the highly anticipated open-world crime game on both PlayStation and Xbox, with the Standard Edition of GTA 6 retails for $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition of GTA 6 costs $99.99. In addition to these hefty price tags and the lack of a disc in the physical pre-order, Grand Theft Auto 6 has come under fire for the content of its more expensive Ultimate Edition, and it appears to be locking several in-game stores behind a paywall.

Grand Theft Auto 6 could get a disc version in December 2026
Back in January, Polish video game outlet PPE reported that a physical release of Grand Theft Auto 6 could be delayed for a few weeks or even a few months, allegedly in an effort to avoid story spoilers leaking early. This report was based on information that PPE had received from its own inside source. In February, just a week after this report, Variety asked Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick about the rumors that it was delaying GTA 6s physical release, to which he simply replied, “That's not the plan.”

Flash forward almost five months and Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders are now live worldwide, and technically Zelnick kept his word. While fans can now pre-order a physical version of the GTA 6 before the November 19th release date, that version of the game will simply give them a box containing a code for a digital copy of the game that can presumably only be redeemed once on a specific Xbox or PlayStation account. This means that fans would not be able to trade in their physical copy of Grand Theft Auto 6 at a later date, or let friends borrow their copy.
But according to a new rumor from PPE, a disc version of GTA 6 could be on the way, and it could come much sooner than many fans expect. PPE has just reported that Take-Two could be planning a more traditional physical disc release of GTA 6 for December 2026, just one month after the game's initial launch. This report is based on information from the same insider who claimed that the physical launch of the game would be delayed altogether. Of course, gamers should always take any rumor with a grain of salt, but there may be at least some hope for physical video game collectors.

Another recent rumor suggests an even more expensive edition of Grand Theft Auto 6 may also be in progress at Rockstar. Yesterday, Portuguese YouTuber Ricfazeres released a video claiming to have heard from an anonymous insider that a Grand Theft Auto 6 Collector's Edition is on the way. Ricfazeres only mentions this version briefly, but does not describe any of its potential inclusions.
