Assassin's Creed Shadows reveals what's coming in the final update

It's the end of the road Assassin's Creed Shadowsbut Ubisoft looks to make sure the game goes out with a bang with this latest content update. It's an exciting month for fans of Ubisoft's popular action-adventure series, with Black flag resynced just around the corner, and the final content update is coming too Assassin's Creed Shadows.

The Assassin's Creed franchise, especially the newer entries in the long-running series, are no strangers to plenty of support, both with quality-of-life updates and additional content. While there may not have been quite as much post-launch content time as fans might have wanted, Assassin's Creed Shadows has seen many impactful updates that brought major changes to the parkour system, added new missions, rewards, and even a major expansion that took players to a brand new location called Awaji Island. Still, it's a bit of a bittersweet situation as the final content update arrives on June 16th, bringing plenty of new content but also signaling the end of the journey.

Assassin's Creed Shadows introduces domains

With the finale Assassin's Creed Shadows update scheduled for June 16, Ubisoft is giving players a deeper look at what's coming to the game. Content-wise, one of the biggest additions is an endgame activity called Domains. Ubisoft is calling this mode an “Animus bending” activity that will have various modifiers added to ensure replayability every time a player dives into it. It features five different maps, remixed from the base game, and challenges players to hone their builds in 10 difficulty settings.

Players load into one of the maps, with higher difficulty adding more modifiers, and must take down Daishos to unlock the final boss arena. Here, players will encounter one of three Animus-corrupted characters, although players can access “Animus Exploits” thanks to an NPC character named MOD, who can hack the system while providing some context and knowledge of what's going on. Even better, Domains also has its own progression system, in-game currency, and merchant, so players can purchase unique armor sets, “game-breaking” engravings, as well as special weapons.

However, domains are not the only piece of the puzzle. Update 1.1.11 also includes the game's final free story chapter called Black Tides. According to the associate game director, Black Tides represents the final story mission of both Naoe and Yasuke's journey, and it will put them in direct conflict with two high-ranking Templars known as the Black Cross. The duo has arrived in Japan specifically to hunt Assassin's Creed Shadows protagonists due to the problems they have caused the organization, although it is implied that they may have ulterior motives as well. The trailer even teases the potential appearance of Assassin's Creed OdysseySo is Cassandra.

It's worth noting that this final mission won't just spawn and has some prerequisites that must be completed first. Specifically, players must have completed the main campaign, while completing previously released DLC stories such as A Critical Encounter, which saw Assassin's Creed Shadows teaming up with voice actor and Critical Role member Robbie Daymond. Note that the Claws of Awaji expansion is not necessary to see the “true” ending Assassin's Creed Shadows.
