Witch Hat Atelier Episode 11 Review

With only a few episodes left, Witch Hat Atelier has left its mark on the anime world and fans aren't ready to say goodbye. While a second season may be on the way, no official confirmation has been given, and Bug Films remains tight-lipped about the possibility of more Coco in the near future. Adapting Kamome Shirahama's fantasy manga series wasn't easy, and Bug Films recently confirmed that it took over three years to create 13 episodes. This was time well spent, as well Witch Hat Atelier has proven to be a masterclass in animation and storytelling, with its fast-paced and whimsical world propelling it to the pinnacle of the spring 2026 anime season. Not a single episode has been a dud, and it's clear that the staff understood the mission, pouring their love into the series and ensuring it will remain loved for years to come.

IN Witch Hat Atelier Episode 10, Coco's story pretty much took a backseat, as Tartah's own insecurities and problems got time in the spotlight. The young boy, who suffers from Silverwash Syndrome, did his best to ease Coco's pain during her time in the hospital by seeking the right medication, but his disability made it easier said than done. As one would expect given her temperament, Coco encouraged Tartah to focus on his strengths rather than his weaknesses, proving that he was capable of wielding his own form of magic. Once healed, Coco and Qifrey returned to the studio. During her short journey, the young girl realized something: drawing the inverse of the spell that trapped her mother in crystal could be the key to reversing the forbidden magic she unknowingly cast.

Coco may be dealing with some major issues (namely, her mother being frozen in crystal), but being surrounded by all things magical has done wonders for her character. As obsessed with magic as she's always been, it's no surprise that she approaches each lesson with gusto, and this week's episode takes the time to showcase more of Qifrey's sensitive teaching style, filled with encouragement and deep wisdom that could only come from years of experience as an aspiring magician. The silver-haired witch points out Coco's strong side, which draws straight lines, something she did during her time as a dresser. While this makes the young girl want to focus solely on what she excels at, Qifrey notes that she should take the time to practice things she is less confident in, as she may discover another strong side waiting within the pages of her textbooks. He also points out the power of positive self-talk, which is something viewers should embrace, given the amount of self-deprecating humor that has become the hallmark of recent generations.

Witch Hat Atelier Episode 11's first half finally gives Richeh some much-needed screen time and exposure, delving more into the quiet girl's past and character. As Coco eagerly flips through books and marvels at the spells drawn inside, she invites her fellow apprentice to join her, though this prompts instant anger. Richeh has always been the quietest of the group, and in previous episodes she has made it clear that she will only do things her own way, going so far as to say that she will only draw what she wants. When Coco discovers the silent girl's secret hideout, she learns that Richeh is afraid of being affected by other people's magic, and doesn't want outsiders to poison her own creations. What this means for her future as a witch is unclear, although her reluctance to listen to Qifrey seems to stem from her past, during which time she was apprenticed to another (presumably stricter) teacher. But it's amazing what a good mentor can do, and by the end it's clear that Qifrey will do everything he can to help Richeh succeed without giving up his principles.

In the second half of the episode, Agott finally gets his chance to take the second test, and while Qifrey's other apprentices do not participate, they are invited to come along for the ride. At the last minute, Qifrey tells Richeh that she will attend, infuriating the girl again. But her teacher explains that it will help her live the life she wants to live in the future, and Qifrey ends her explanation with a plea to Richeh to trust him just once. The test, which is a type of complex escort mission, won't be easy, with next week's episode sure to be action-packed and a little more stressful than this week's shenanigans. Strangely, Richeh doesn't seem worried about the test results, perhaps because she is confident in her own skills. There's something beautiful about not wanting to be something you're not, and it's a lesson more young people should learn.

Witch Hat Atelier manages to drive home some powerful lessons about self-worth and personal growth, while being one of the most engaging fantasy series in recent memory. It doesn't preach, but rather weaves its lessons directly into its storytelling, with Qifrey mentoring her apprentices and the audience as well. For many of us, growing up was filled with landmines in the form of adults telling us what we could and couldn't do. Bad teachers can bring us down or instill a feeling of never being good enough, a feeling that often stays with us as adults. Qifrey feels like the role model we all need, always focusing on the positive and never giving the bad thoughts time to grow. We are all good at something, and the things we struggle with can always be polished and made better. We are all valuable and irreplaceable, with Richeh serving as a reminder to never trade yourself for another.

Qifrey's apprentices aren't alone in taking the test, as this week also introduced Euini and his teacher, Kukrow. The young lad has already failed the test twice, but instead of cheering him on and focusing on what he brings to the table, Kukrow viciously vilifies him, calling him worthless and lamenting that he couldn't be replaced by another, more skilled witch in training. The effect of this is immediately apparent, with Euini constantly apologizing and putting herself down with her own words. What we plant will grow tenfold: negativity begets negativity, and once it starts to sprout, it's hard to cut down. This week's Witch Hat Atelier make two important points: believe in yourself and be yourself.

And in an age when everyone has TikTok brains and acts exactly the same, being yourself is an incredibly brave act of defiance. Cheers, Richeh.
