10 Most Overpowered Characters, Ranked

Many of the characters introduced in Hunter x Hunter are talented Nen users with unique and useful abilities, but certain characters are far stronger than others. A few Hunter x Hunter characters are downright overpowered. Even among the series’ overpowered characters, there is a clear hierarchy of strength in Hunter x Hunter.

The strongest HxH characters are overpowered thanks to their Nen mastery and the overall strength of their techniques. It helps that most of HxX‘s most powerful characters are far stronger, faster, and more durable than normal humans. It’s worth mentioning that some of these characters are technically insects. Several of these characters can defeat other Nen users with a single attack, and a few are powerful enough to vaporize their opponents.

Biscuit Krueger

Biscuit is the Double-Star Stone Hunter who taught Gon and Killua how to develop their Nen abilities. She may look like a cute, harmless little girl, but this appearance is a result of her Transmutation Nen ability. She is actually a very tall and muscular woman. This transformation comes in handy during fights because most opponents typically underestimate her. It also helps that Biscuit receives a significant power boost when she returns to her original form.

According to series creator, Yoshihiro Togashi, Biscuit is one of HxH‘s true Nen masters, which places her skill level on a completely different level. She can easily evade attacks from an assassin prodigy like Killua, and can strike him even when he focuses solely on dodging. Biscuit is a master hand-to-hand fighter who can knock out most Nen users by striking their vulnerable points and blind spots with perfect accuracy.

Uvogin

Uvogin was a founding member of the Phantom Troupe. In terms of physical strength, he was the group’s strongest member. As an Enhancer, Uvogin used his aura to enhance all of his physical abilities to superhuman levels. The argument can be made that he was the strongest Enhancer in Hunter x Hunter. Uvogin could kill an average human or weak Nen user with a single punch, and he was fast enough to catch bullets with his teeth, which explains how he decimated dozens of Mafia members in minutes.

The Shadow Beats were considered the best Nen users within the Mafia, and Uvogin defeated four of them single-handedly. What makes this feat really impressive is the fact that he killed three of them while only being able to move his head and neck. By focusing his aura into his fist, Uvogin could produce punches with the destructive power of a missile, which allowed him to vaporize people at close range.

Zeno Zoldyck

The Zoldyck Family is the most feared group of assassins in Hunter x Hunter, and Zeno is the family’s previous leader. Zeno is a Nen master who has also mastered every advanced assassination technique, which means he can create after-images of himself and physically alter his body to the point he can turn his hands into lethal claws. Like the rest of his family, Zeno’s body is extremely durable and resistant to torture and poisons.

Zeno is easily one of the series’ best Emission Nen users. He can fire aura blasts from his palms that are powerful enough to injure someone as strong as Chrollo, and he can shape his aura into a dragon-like construct, which is the foundation of most of his techniques. Zeno can target individuals with his high-speed Dragon Lance strikes, but he can also bombard an entire fortress from above with hundreds of aura dragons. As a result, Zeno has the power to take out a small army of weaker fighters with a single attack.

Nanika

Nanika is a creature from the Dark Continent. At some point in the past, Nanika possessed the body of Alluka, the second youngest member of the Zoldyck Family. Alluka was never trained to be an assassin, so Nanika cannot use any secret techniques, but it is overpowered regardless. Several HxH characters have incredible aura reserves, but Alluka’s reserves appear to be infinite, and its power is unquantifiable.

Nanika has the power to alter reality itself by granting wishes. It can teleport someone accross continents instantaneously, or make them the richest person on the planet. It can also restore someone’s body even if they are on the verge of death. Nanika will only grant a wish if someone fulfils three requests, and if this condition is not met, Nanika will instantly kill someone. Depending on the scale of the previous wish, Nanika can kill over 60 people at once with its power.

Chrollo Lucifer

Chrollo is the founder and leader of the Phantom Troupe, and although he is ranked only 7th in physical strength, he is widely regarded as the group’s most powerful member overall. Not only is Chrollo one of HxH‘s best Specialization Nen users, he’s a master strategist and hand-to-hand fighter with incredible speed and reflexes. Hisoka is a powerful and dangerous Nen user in his own right, and when they finally fought, Chrollo decimated him.

Chrollo can steal the Nen abilities of others with his Skill Hunter technique and then use them as if they were his. This technique has quite a few steps, but when they are all met, Chrollo can beat virtually anyone. Zeno and Silva Zoldyck are the strongest assassins in the series, and Chrollo fought them both at the same time without suffering any serious injuries. As strong as Zeno is, even he admitted that Chrollo would have won if he had true killing intent.

Menthuthuyoupi

Menthuthuyoupi may have been the youngest of Meruem’s Royal Guards, but he was without a doubt one of the most powerful Chimera Ants in the series. Youpi was not that bright, but he possessed immense superhuman strength, stamina, and durability, and his speed was top-tier. Not only did Youpi tank multiple blows from Killua, he walked into what was essentially a radioactive crater without sustaining any noticeable injuries.

Youpi was a Transmuter who could freely manipulate any part of his anatomy. As a result, he could eliminate every blind spot by growing eyes all over his body, and take flight by growing wings. He could also create different types of spikes to impale multiple opponents. Youpi would get mad very easily, which was a positive in his case because he could channel that rage into a massive blast or even transform into a centaur-like form which enhanced all his physical abilities.

Neferpitou

Neferpitou was a cat-like Chimera Ant and the first of Meruem’s Royal Guards to be born. They survived a tail strike from Meruem that was intended to be lethal with nothing more than a bruise, and they took a direct hit from Netero’s 100 Type Guanyin Bodhisattva technique without getting hurt. These are just some of the feats that have led many HxH fans to believe Pitou was the strongest Chimera Ant other than Meruem.

Pitou easily defeated a powerful Pro Hunter like Kite, and according to Netero, who was still regarded as the world’s strongest Hunter, Pitou could have beaten him. They were a Specialist with a strong affinity for Manipulation and Conjuration. They could control other beings like puppets, and with Terpsichora, their body got controlled by a monstrous ballerina, which gave Pitou enough strength and speed to injure Adult Gon.

Isaac Netero

Isaac Netero may have been over 100 years old, but he was regarded by many to be the world’s strongest Hunter. At one point, he was considered the world’s most powerful Nen user, but he has lost a large amount of his strength due to age. That said, Netero was still among the top five before his death. Morel, who is a powerful Hunter in his own right, claimed that if Netero could not defeat someone, no one in the Hunter Association could.

Netero spent years honing his skills, and developed incredible physical abilities as a result. He could track advanced assassin movement techniques, and his body was durable enough to block most enhanced kicks and punches. Netero was an Enhancer who also seemed to master Manipulation and either Emission or Conjuration. His 100 Type Guanyin Bodhisattva technique summoned a gigantic Nen construct that could perform 100 unique strikes, with each strike taking 0.1 seconds to hit. Most people who saw this construct were crushed with one hit. By draining all his aura, Netero’s construct could fire a beam that would vaporize most opponents.

Adult Gon

Gon Freecss is a Rookie Hunter, and his father Ging may be one of the five strongest Nen users still alive. Gon is an Enhancer who can also use Emission and Transmutation. Over the span of two years, he has become a capable hand-to-hand fighter and Nen user. Base Gon may be strong, but he is not overpowered. That said, Adult Gon proved to be extremely overpowered.

Gon’s adult transformation is easily one of the strongest transformations in Shonen anime because it summons all the power that Gon will ever have. As a result, he becomes more powerful than Neferpitou, and according to Pitou, Adult Gon is a legitimate threat to Meruem. Adult Gon seems to have superhuman strength, reflexes, and durability, and his Jajanken attacks were strong enough to eventually shatter Pitou’s body.

Meruem

Meruem is one of the few anime villains who feels more iconic than the protagonist, but he also happens to be HxH‘s most overpowered character. He was bred to be the ultimate lifeform, which explains why he possessed immeasurable strength, speed, reflexes, stamina, and durability. Meruem was a pure melee fighter who could tear off limbs in the blink of an eye, and his tail could cut through flesh like butter.

Meruem withstood all of Netero’s physical attacks and walked away with some scratches. He took a direct hit from Netero’s Zero Hand and still shrugged it off. It took a literal nuclear explosion at point-blank range and acute radiation poisoning to take Meruem down. Meruem could increase his power by eating other Nen users, and in doing so, he could access their abilities. This means there was no real limit to Meruem’s power.
