After 12 years, Naruto reveals the official successor of the Second Hokage

Was officially introduced in Naruto chapter 118, which was released in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #19 on April 22, 2002, the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, was a legendary figure within Konoha as well as the Ninja world. Tobirama was known to be a very pragmatic leader who led significant development in the shinobi world, while wielding immense power. Perhaps the biggest thing Tobirama was known for was his skill as the “inventor”. Tobirama Senju invented some of the greatest and most powerful jutsu in the world Naruto.

Now, 12 years after his last appearance in Naruto Chapter 691, which was officially released on September 22, 2014, Naruto's sequel, Borutohas officially introduced the successor to Tobirama, who has invented quite a few powerful techniques of his own. This successor is none other than the protagonist of the series, Boruto Uzumaki himself.

Tobirama Senju was a master of all five natures, but his affinity was Water Release. However, the strongest techniques that he had did not belong to any of the five nature transformations. Tobirama was an inventor of some of the most powerful and exciting techniques to ever exist in the Naruto world, and that was his true strength. For example, Tobirama Senju was the creator of the Flying Raijin Technique, which allows one to teleport. This technique made him the fastest ninja of his time. While Minato was a better user of this technique and went on to perfect it, Tobirama was the one who invented it in the first place, as confirmed in Naruto Chapter 641.

Known to be incredibly iconic in the world of ninja, the Shadow Clone Technique was also invented by none other than Tobirama Senju. He also invented Impure World Reincarnation, which is also known as Edo Tensei and stands as the most dangerous technique to ever exist in the world of Naruto. Tobirama also invented the mutually multiplying paper bombs, and all of these are just a fraction of what he really invented in the ninja world during his time as the Second Hokage.

Naruto: Old man second, you sure know a lot about my shadow clones!

Tobirama: I created the Jutsu! That's my technique!

IN BorutoTobirama has an official successor in the form of the young Lord, Boruto Uzumaki. Even though Boruto hasn't invented that many Jutsu yet, he is still remarkably young at only 16 years old, which is extremely impressive to me. He has already invented quite a few powerful Jutsu and even completely reverse engineered and reformulated Tobirama's very own Flying Thunder God technique which was officially confirmed in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 16, which dropped in V-jump on November 20, 2024.

Even Naruto's strongest characters cannot compete with Boruto's level. They would lose to him in a heartbeat.

Boruto has invented 5 Jutsu in the series so far

So far in Boruto: Two Blue VortexBoruto Uzumaki has invented a total of five techniques and demonstrated his skill with many other impressive jutsus as well. The very first technique that Boruto invented in the story was the Vanishing Rasengan. Technically, this jutsu was invented by him unconsciously, but it is still a technique that he developed himself. By adding Lightning Release to the Rasengan, Boruto caused a complete change in the properties of the jutsu, causing it to disappear at a random moment, surprising the enemy.

This technology debuted in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter #2 of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #27 on June 20, 2016. Following this technique, Boruto Uzumaki invented a new form of Rasengan called the Compression Rasengan, which greatly increased the technique's penetration power and its destructive ability. He also invented a Super Compression Rasengan, which made this technique even stronger and allowed him to almost effortlessly tear through the defenses of someone as strong as a Kara Inner.

IN Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 4, officially released on November 4, 2023, revealed Boruto Uzumaki as a user of the Flying Thunder God technique, which was invented by Tobirama himself. In his case, he created this technique all by himself. His technique is not as refined as Tobirama Senju or Minato Namikaze. However, it is equally impressive as he manages to infuse certain metals with his chakra. By imagining their form in his mind and feeling the chakra within them, he can teleport to them instantly. This technique also allows him to surprise the enemies, which has already been shown in the story on several occasions. In my eyes, this elevates Boruto Uzumaki's character significantly, especially after seeing his slow character development over the years.

Boruto Uzumaki also invented one of the strongest techniques seen in the entire franchise, that is the Rasengan Uzuhiko. This technique completely blew away my understanding of what the Rasengan could do when it first debuted on September 20, 2023, in the second chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. Using the rotation of the planet, Boruto essentially puts his enemy into a state of semi-permanent vertigo, completely destroying their sense of semblance and balance, and in the process effortlessly defeating them. Even strong individuals, like those on the level of Code or other strong Otsutsuki, cannot resist this technique, and it only makes Boruto even greater of an inventor, potentially second only to the likes of Tobirama in my eyes.

A Rasengan that incorporates the rotation of the planet into its chakra. That's what Uzuhiko is. The power rushing through your body right now will never go away. Just like how a planet will never stop spinning. The damage will continue semi-permanently. — Boruto Uzumaki explains his newly invented Uzuhiko, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #2

Why Boruto Uzumaki's growth as the next inventor will make him the strongest ninja

natural energy Strongest Jutsu Boruto Uzumaki After Timeskip

Having watched Boruto's journey as a young adult in the Two Blue Vortex for about three years now, I can confidently say that this is just the beginning of his journey as a strong ninja. Boruto Uzumaki is still in the process of learning many more techniques and, given his incredible talent, he invents a plethora of powerful jutsu. Right now, Boruto Uzumaki has invented about five jutsu of his own and learned a lot from Sasuke Uchiha and Kashin Koji, but the best is yet to come. Boruto's strongest transformations, strongest skills and, alongside that, strongest jutsu have yet to be revealed by Mikio Ikimoto and Masashi Kishimoto, which annoys me and many other fans to no end.

Right now, Boruto stands as the true successor of Tobirama Senju in Konoha, but he has already surpassed him in strength. In the future, Boruto Uzumaki can go on to surpass the legacy of not only Tobirama Senju but every other Hokage in existence. But unfortunately, Boruto Uzumaki will never become Hokage because that is not his goal. He wants to be a shinobi just like Sasuke Uchiha, and that's admirable to me in its own way and really exciting.
