Jez Corden is a household name by now. At least if your household happens to contain at least one gaming enthusiast who keeps up-to-date remotely with industry news. He clearly has connections in high places, so when he chimes in with expectations for upcoming game announcements and release dates, it's generally worth listening to.
Today, Corden made the claim — note, it's an informed prediction, rather than an outright proclamation — that we may very well see at least one Fallout remaster in 2027. Also, to no one's surprise, The Elder Scrolls is still years away. But how many years? At this point, you might be pleasantly shocked at his thoughts on it.
I could honestly imagine even worse
Right around the two-hour mark on the latest episode of the Xbox Two podcast, co-hosts Rand al Thor 19 (probably not the real Rand al'Thor, unfortunately) and Jez Corden talked about the state of Bethesda Game Studios. Here's where Corden says he's heard certain things — with the disclaimer that he's not sure how true they are.
“I've heard it like, I don't know how true this is, but one thing I've heard is [the] Fallout remasters are probably a little further away than people think and Elder Scrolls 6 is still pretty far away. I guess getting some of these games out faster is probably something that they think is a focus for them.” -Jez Corden
Taken on its own, this is half guess, half leak, as Corden can't be sure if the whispers he's tuned into are accurate here. Things got a little more interesting a while later.
Rand notes that he didn't anticipate any of the rumored Fallout remakes until next year “at the earliest.” Corden attaches some probability-based dates to them, as well as The Elder Scrolls 6, in his response.
“Yeah, that's kind of what I'm thinking: 2027 maybe for a Fallout remake, at least one of those, and then probably the year after or the year after that for [Elder Scrolls 6].”
A Fallout 3 remake in 2027 sounds fun enough to me. The big bomb, of course, is TES 6. If Corden's reckoning here turns out to be correct, then a 2028-29 release date for the first mainline entry since 2011's Skyrim? At this point, I have to admit that it doesn't sound right to bad anymore. Two to three years away is the best I could hope for. The internet is full of depressed fan expectations for something more like 2031, so I'll take what I can get.
