It's a day that ends in “Y,” meaning Mortal Kombat fans are once again wondering when the day will come when they can play Shaolin Monks on modern hardware, either via a Remaster, a Remake, or even as simple as a port. That day hasn't come yet, though, and the title was missing from last year's Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection.
So it doesn't help that series director Ed Boon is once again teasing a return to Shaolin Monks.
On Twitter, one half of Noob Saibot asked fans if they would like to see Shaolin Monks or Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) remastered first.
So far, 21,355 votes have been cast with 1 day and 16 hours left on the ballot. Perhaps most surprising is the fact that the vote tally is much closer than one might expect, as Shaolin Monks barely has an edge over MK9, 51 to 49 percent.

After all the rumours, we now know Cole Young's fate in Mortal Kombat 2
Cole Young is sidelined in Mortal Kombat 2, despite directing the first film.
Of course, that could change in the next few hours, but considering how well-received Mortal Kombat 9 is and how it practically saved the franchise, I'd have a hard time believing it would lose in a landslide.
The Shaolin Monks are aware of everyone, including Mortal Kombat's live-action cast
It was just 10 days ago that Max Huang, who plays Kung Lao in the current Mortal Kombat live-action movies, revealed that he would like to see a big screen adaptation of the iconic spin-off.
“Something that I would personally love to explore would be a Shaolin Monks spin-off,” Huang said in an interview. “Ludi (Lin) has talked about it. I've talked about it. It would be great to see the origins of the two characters and how they were raised by Bo' Rai Cho and trained and explored the White Lotus. Yeah, the Mortal Kombat lore is huge.”
It's also not the first time Shaolin Monks has been brought up by Boon, who teased a return to the spin-off as far back as 2022. A year before that, it won a poll for the most requested remasters.
As for MK9, it's still active online to this day, and is also locked to older hardware, so its return would be just as welcome. Still, few things are as popular with MK fans as Shaolin Monks.

I watched all the James Bond movies this month. Here is the first thing that the lamp needs to be right
James Bond has had many iterations over its 70-year history, but one woman remains (relatively) consistent.
