Both games have been some of the top dogs in the live service world, and it's exciting to see two competitors meet for a crossover.
Fortnite and Monitoring boast very different core game modes, but the two have managed to continue going strong while other live service games have fallen out of favor with many players. Both have faced many ups and downs over the years, but their willingness to come together for a collaboration is further proof that the live service competition may be winding down. Even if Fortnite and Monitoring have been competitors for close to a decade now, the latter gaining a new competitor just a few years ago. Marvel Rivals hit the scene in late 2024, and quickly Monitorings main adversary in the live services space. Fortnite being best known as a battle royale game sets it apart Monitoring. Marvel Rivalstakes on the other hand Monitorings hero shooter formula and give it a Marvel makeover. There are not many hero shooting games that have been able to reach the same heights as Monitoringbut Marvel Rivals has fought well.

Marvel Rivals and Overwatch could eventually get their own crossover
Then Fortnite and Monitoring are still quite different when it comes to gameplay, a crossover between them ultimately makes more sense. However, the door has been opened, and it is possible Monitoring can look at other crossovers with direct competitors. Adding some of the most powerful Monitoring heroes to Marvel Rivalsor vice versa, once seemed like a really wild idea. FortniteHowever, the collaboration doesn't make it seem so crazy anymore.
The Marvel Rivals the roster is filled with plenty of familiar names and deep cuts from Marvel Comics, and it would be really interesting to see them enter the arena with familiar Monitoring faces. Whether this type of team-up happened within Monitoring or Marvel Rivalsseeing characters like Tracer and D.Va fight against or alongside Marvel classics like Blade and Daredevil would be a pretty surreal moment.
A team of Fortnite and Marvel Rivals would simply feel redundant
Marvel Rivals and Monitoring coming together just makes more sense than the former coming into being Fortnite. There have already been many great ones Fortnite Marvel crossovers, so adding another one to Battle Royale wouldn't feel nearly as exciting. It's not just simple skins and cosmetics either. Long Fortnite gamers and even gamers who are simply familiar with the game know that Epic Games has hosted several major Marvel-focused events.
At most, a Marvel Rivals and Fortnite collab would be more about getting new skin variants. NetEases Marvel Rivals character art is really distinct, so check out some of those costume designs Fortnite would be kinda cool. It just wouldn't have the same effect as one Marvel Rivals x Monitoring partnership would have, however. Frankly, Fortnite is possibly running out of steam when it comes to its Marvel crossovers.
Epic Games uses Marvel content to primarily capitalize on movie releases. Then Spider-Man: Brand New Dayrelease date is set for July 31st, there will certainly be some in-game skins and events tied to the film's debut. With that in mind Fortnite has already featured several major Spider-Man-focused moments, but it can be difficult to give players something truly impressive. This is hopefully not the case, but Marvel is branching out to other games for crossovers instead of focusing so much on Fortnite might be the better move. Monitoring would be one of the obvious choices, since it would reach such a large audience.
Are there plans for Overwatch to have a Marvel Rivals Crossover sometime soon?
Right now there are no known plans for Monitoring and Marvel Rivals to join together. For fans who want to see it happen, it's more than likely a big dream that will never come true. Monitoring comes to Fortnite definitely shows that the former is willing to expand its reach. Marvel Rivals however, is the game that will probably hold back from such a crossover.
Unlike Monitorings openness to present occasional crossovers with external IP, Marvel Rivals has maintained an exclusive atmosphere by sticking to the Marvel universe. As far as is known, NetEase has no real desire to add non-Marvel characters to the game. It makes a lot of sense, as it would be a bit confusing for a Marvel-branded game to feature characters from other franchises. However, it is still not impossible for Marvel Rivals to change page to Monitoring. There is still a small chance that Marvel Rivals-inspired skins could eventually be added Monitoring. Still, NetEase may eventually change its mind down the road and open itself up to the occasional crossover for a non-Marvel IP. This is the less likely scenario, but nothing is really impossible.
The slow death of the live service may force these games to think outside the box
The biggest downside to the live service game model is that it requires developers to constantly keep things as exciting as impossible. That's why Fortnite has a reputation for being a hodgepodge of lots of experiences in one. It's much more than just a simple battle royale now. Epic Games' hit title just got a whole lot bigger, and it's going to be harder to keep up. Monitoring and Marvel Rivals are bound to hit the same wall. In some ways, they already have. As the live service hype starts to fall away and be replaced by more extraction games and whatever other genre trend is next, Monitoring and Marvel Rivals may be forced to lean against each other.
