Death Note is a light incitement that goes quickly

Death Note Best Dark Series Rival Berserk

Death Note is a classic for a reason. Only 37 episodes long Death Note the anime is an almost flawless adaptation of the Weekly Shonen Jump manga, especially in its first half. The story moves along quickly and focuses on Light and L's game of cat and mouse as Light tries to avoid the Japanese task force coming after his serial killer persona, Kira, while systematically cleansing the world of criminals using his Death Note.

Death Note is an exciting, addictive series full of plot twists and clever writing that never slows down even for a second. The anime's excellent animation, amazing soundtrack, and amazing vocal performances (both in English and Japanese) make the series a must-watch, even for anyone who has already read the manga. Don't be surprised if you're done Death Note before the end of the week.

Sanda is a great anime that everyone ignored in 2025

Between Ping Pong The Animation, Space Dandy, Devilman Crybabyand DandadanScience Saru has quickly become one of the biggest anime studios around. Sand was mostly ignored by anime fans in 2025, but the series is another worthy addition to Science Saru's stacked list of must-watch anime.

By the creator of BEAST STARS, Sand takes place in a world where Santa Claus has become a mere legend and sealed away by a curse, while Japan's declining birthrate has resulted in children gaining a higher social status than adults. Sand is a bizarre series that is greatly elevated by its fantastic animation, fantastic music and eclectic storytelling.

Tonbo! is the best golf anime of all time

tonbo season 2 tonbo and kazuyoshi

Tonbo! is a great anime in its own right, but it's also one of the most realistic versions of golf in anime. The series follows Kazuyoshi Igarashi, a former golf pro, who takes an interest in a young orphan, Tonbo Oi, who turns out to be a natural golfer. Igarashi takes Tonbo under his wing as the two grow closer and deepen their love for golf.

Tonbo! is in many ways a love letter to the entire sport, striving to be as realistic as possible in every respect (though not without its share of exaggeration to keep things as exciting as possible for casuals). The production quality can sometimes leave a lot to be desired, but the anime's story, atmosphere, and respect for golf make up for it Tonbo! an easy-going binge that leaves you wanting more.

Inuyasha is still holding up

Balances a perfect blend of adventure, action, romance and fantasyInuyasha is one of the best anime of the early 2000s. Set in Sengoku Period Japan, a modern Japanese girl named Kikyo is sent back in time when the land was overrun with demons and magic. There she meets the titular Inuyasha, a half-dog, half-demon man with whom she quickly forms a deep bond.

Inuyasha certainly feels its age (for better or for worse), but the anime holds up surprisingly well thanks to its amazing production quality and impressively mature storytelling, especially for an anime with pretense. All 167 episodes of Inuyasha anime is streaming on Prime Video, and can keep fans busy for weeks to come (unless they become addicted and power through the entire series in one week, of course).

Evangelion 1:11: You are (not) alone is a big jump

Eva unit 01

Although the original Neon Genesis Evangelion anime is not streaming on Prime Video, all four movies in the Rebuilding Evangelion reboot is. The Rebuild movies is half a compilation/remix of the original anime, while acting as a pseudo-sequel that plays with the anime's story and themes in a fresh way.

The Rebuilding Evangelion is better to watch after watching the whole The Gospel anime (and The end of Evangelion movie), but Evangelion 1:11: You are (not) alone holds up well as a standalone watch. 1:11 redo the first six episodes of The Gospel anime with only minor changes, making it a good starting point for new fans who want a taste of the series. Just consider getting the original NGE anime before moving on to the next movie.

Great Teacher Onizuka is an underrated 90s classic

Amazing teacher Onizuka is an excellent anime about an ex-criminal who decides to become a teacher to date young girls, only to find a class full of criminals just like he used to be. What follows is a surprisingly heartfelt story that mixes comedy and drama together as Onizuka connects with his students, while growing as a person himself.

With a great soundtrack, amazing art direction, genuinely funny moments and a lot of heart, Amazing teacher Onizuka is one of the best anime to come out in 1999. GTO is technically a sequel to Shonan Junai Gumibut the anime can be enjoyed perfectly standalone and requires no prior context to appreciate Onizuka's journey to becoming the best teacher Japan has ever seen.

Tatsuki Fujimoto 17 26

Before Tatsuki Fujimoto established himself as one of the greatest modern manga artists Fire Punch and Chainsaw manhe made a name for himself through various one-shot manga – all of which are fantastic in their own right. Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-28 is an anthology adaptation of every manga Fujimoto worked on between the ages of 17 and 28.

Each one-shot has been adapted into its own episode, all of which are superbly animated and uniquely atmospheric. With a mix of horror, comedy, drama and raw emotion, Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-28 is a strange masterpiece that every anime fan needs to see at least once in their lifetime. Look Back is a masterpiece anime movie that will crack you up

Another adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto's bibliography, Look back is a semi-autobiographical work about two girls who work together to become manga artists. Look back is a beautiful story of friendship, passion, grief and learning to deal with loss. The movie is nothing short of a masterpiece that will absolutely break your heart when all is said and done.

Look back won Movie of the Year at the 9th Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2025, along with a nomination for Best Score. The film's animation and soundtrack are second to none, elevating an already fantastic story to new, emotionally intense heights. Ghost in the Shell is one of the best anime movies ever made

Major Motoko Kusanagi in the 1995 film Ghost in the Shell

With Science Saru set to remake the original Ghost in the Shell mangab as a true episodic series this July, there's never been a better time to check out the best Sci-Fi movie of 1995. Ghost in the Shell 1995 is a loose adaptation of the original manga, but kind of like Akirais no worse for wear for that.

Ghost in the Shell 1995 toned down the comedy of the manga and made the story more focused to become the cult classic that went on to inspire The matrix. GitSThe gritty cyberpunk atmosphere is enhanced by the film's absolutely incredible art direction, perfect soundtrack and tight pace. Ghost in the Shell is a quick watch that will make you a fan of the series for life.

Vinland Saga is the best anime on Prime Video

Vinland Saga is a masterpiece and by far the best anime to come out of Prime Video. The series follows a Viking, Thorfinn, in an epic tragedy of revenge. The series is in many ways a deconstruction of the typical revenge narrative, as well as other seinen anime and manga that glorify action without actually examining the underlying violence underneath.

Without giving too much away, Vinland Saga is a mature, intense anime that follows Thorfinn coming to terms with his violent past. The show's character development is second to none, with exceptional animation, fight choreography and strong direction. Vinland Saga is currently two seasons in, adapting more or less half of the manga, making it a perfect time to jump in before Season 3 gets an official green light.
