Although not quite as viral as it once was, REPO is still enjoyed by many, and its initial popularity cannot be understated. Taking the internet by storm due to its goofy bean-shaped characters and the built-in potential for hilarious internet clips, it's no surprise that indie developers would want to recreate the success of Semiworks' scary-yet-silly projects. A Steam title that clearly follows in the footsteps of REPO is Last Pirates: Die Togetherbut it is not a direct copy. Sure, its character models are just as charming, and it seems poised to deliver its fair share of scares via some player-chasing monsters, but it's also working extraction elements into its gameplay loop.
The rise of the extraction genre has been interesting to watch, as if its difficulty means it's inherently niche, which hasn't stopped studios from trying to put their own spin on the concept. Arc Raiders was a huge success, and while other games haven't managed to make the same splash, there have still been some notable attempts. Bungie's Marathon is such an example, as it is Call of Dutys Endgame mode, and with a Halo Extraction shooter is rumored, more games in this style can be expected. For Steam players who enjoy this angst-inducing genre, Last Pirates: Die Together can be even more appealing than a regular friendly game – and those interested don't have long to try it.

Create your own story while filling the captain's pockets
Last Pirates: Die Together puts players in the shoes of a greedy ship captain's lackeys, where the clumsy shipmates are thrown onto a creepy island to loot everything that isn't nailed to the floor. To do their looting, they will use a grappling tool just like i REPObut said tools are really just their strangely stretchy arms. Using their arms, players can destroy parts of the island, tear apart doors and grab furniture that can be carried and thrown to their escape boat. Coming out with this loot won't be easy though, as players will face many threats in Silent Cove.

While players will try to loot and escape from a coastal resort just like in hit extraction game Escape from Tarkovthe biggest threat in Last Pirates are not other players, but AI-controlled supernatural enemies. Ghostly sharks, creepy apparitions, sea monsters and so on will block progress and hunt players, forcing the group to strategize at every turn. Sometimes it may be best to have three players serve as distractions and let one member of the party collect the valuable loot. Other times, it may be more profitable to work to find ways to stun enemies.
As REPOthis simple game loop is enhanced by a humorous aesthetic; The characters fall and have their buttocks exposed on full screen (with some footage showing another player smacking and slapping their cheeks), the player models boast goofy, big-eyed faces, and the extendable arms are predictably weird. As players manage to extract in Last Piratesthey will be able to collect a wide variety of outfits for their character, making them the silly pirate of their dreams.
Last Pirates' Demo is just one piece of the final puzzle
Last Pirates' demo is just around the corner, and while it's pretty full-featured, it won't have everything included in the full Steam Early Access version. Players will only be able to explore the Silent Cove map and its abandoned mansion, with other maps left until later. Additionally, not all of the interactable items planned for the game will be present in the demo build, meaning there will be more to destroy, collect and use later. Still, with the core mechanics present in the demo as well as four different monsters that react to sound and movement, it should be a fun experience that convinces potential players if this particular game is right for their friend group.
