One Piece Chapter 1182 covered various events in Elbaph, and it began with the battle between Saint Nerona Imu, the King of the World who descended upon the land in Chapter 1179, and Prince Loki. Along with Prince Loki is his beloved Ragnir, who fights side by side with him all the time. Ragnir is an ally not only of Loki but the ancient God of War, which was officially introduced in One Piece Chapter 1175 on March 2, 2026.

According to Jarul, Elbaph's stories mention the existence of a certain war god. This god of war had the ability to transform into the giant dragon Nidhoggr and had at his side the ice squirrel known as Ratatoskr. Together, the two fought against the Sun God of the World. When Elbaf's god of war died, Ratatoskr then possessed his beloved hammer and came to be known as Ragnir. In One Piece Chapter 1182, it was officially confirmed Ragnir ate Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr. This mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit is officially said to be legendary in nature and possess the power of the fabled Ice Squirrel. As a mythical zoan, this fruit offers immense physical capabilities and durability, as well as the ability to manipulate ice.

“Ragnir, so you stayed as you were before, waiting for a new master to come.” — Nerona Imu, One Piece Chapter 1182

One Piece Chapter 1182 also confirmed a direct link between Nerona Imu and Ratatoskr. After seeing the ice squirrel after an 800-year period, Nerona Imu notes that the squirrel has not changed at all and looks the same. In the past, Imu was allied with Nidhoggr and the Ice Squirrel. How exactly their relationship broke down, and why Imu calls them a traitor, remains to be seen.

The vast majority of Devil Fruits found in the world of One Piece are eaten by humans or other races that exist. But they are not the only ones who use Devil Fruits. Inanimate objects can also be fed Devil Fruits. This discovery was made by Vegapunk and was first mentioned in the Arabasta arc of One Piece Chapter 184, which was officially released on May 28, 2001. Over the years, many other Devil Fruits have been fed to inanimate objects, such as Zou Zou no Mi being eaten by Spandam's sword Funkfreed. Similarly, Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr is eaten not by a human but by a hammer that goes by the name of Ragnir.

It's the latest technology! On the Grand Line, even inanimate objects can eat Devil Fruits! — Ms. Merry Christmas, One Piece Chapter 184

Also known as Iron Lightning, Ragnir can deliver high level electricity and bring down lightning from the sky when powered by the Nidhoggr ability. After the death of Elbaph's God of War, Ratatoskr's soul was somehow transferred inside Ragnir, giving it the characteristics of the Arctic Squirrel, making it a Devil Fruit user. This likely happened at the end of the Void Century, given that it has been officially stated in the story that Ragnir has guarded the legendary Devil Fruit of Elbaph for centuries.

Ragnir stayed inside Aurust's castle, preventing anyone from consuming this Devil Fruit ability. Even strong individuals, such as Harald, Jarul and all those before them, were denied by Ragnir. But 14 years ago, when the Ice Squirrel fought Prince Loki for the very first time, it knew he was the one destined to eat the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr. Since then, Ragnir has officially teamed up with Prince Loki, and the two now fight together with incredible synergy, as confirmed directly by Imu in Chapter 1182.

Ragnir possesses several incredible abilities at his disposal. At first, Risu Risu no Mi, model: Ratatoskr gives the power of a legendary squirrel. Zoan fruits usually have overwhelming strength, resistance, recovery rate, and defensive ability. The fact that this is a Mythical Zoan means that all of these abilities are shot through the roof. This also means that Ragnir's overall defense is further boosted due to the very nature of this Devil Fruit ability. Just like all other mythical fruits, Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr also offers a special ability. In this case, the fruit has given it the power to produce ice.

This Devil Fruit also gives the power to flash freeze targets instantly, as seen when Loki freezes Gunko instantly in chapter 1178 of the story. It has also been canonically stated by Eiichiro Oda in chapter 1179 that anyone frozen by Ragnir cannot be unfrozen in any way, unless the squirrel himself chooses to unfreeze the target.

It was a flash freeze, so they don't die, but those frozen by Ragnir can only be thawed by him! — Loki, a piece of chapter 1179

Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr also has a unique sub-ability to produce lightning by colliding ice particles together. This Devil Fruit allows the user to generate lightning and then project it at the target at lightning speed. All things considered, the power of Ragnir, the power of Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr, is absolutely immense. So far, with the power of this Devil Fruit, Ragnir has shown enough capacity to take down a giant Draugr in a single blow, completely flash frozen and hit Gunko using the ice powers, and even deal a fatal blow to Nerona Imu, causing him to bleed from the head, showing tremendous fighting ability, especially when combined with the power of the fruit.

The overall firepower offered by the Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr is further enhanced by the fact that it has tremendous synergy with the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr. This is exactly why these two always work in a pair. That was the case 800 years ago, with the God of War and the Ice Squirrel, and is now the case with Loki and Ragnir.

Snow… yes, really. Lightning strikes caused by ice impact. Your bond with each other was always great. — Nerona Imu, One Piece Chapter 1182

By producing his own lightning, Ratatoskr increases the power of Nidhoggr, who should also primarily produce massive lightning. Additionally, by using a cold ice mist, the mythical Ratatoskr also allows Nidhoggr to produce frozen lightning, as seen in chapter 1182 of the story. Everything that Oda has shown so far is only part of what this legendary Mythical Zoan Fruit has to offer. As the fight against Imu continues, more features of Ragnir will finally be revealed.
