Alternative Dragon Ball Super Manga turns Vegeta into the main character

The Dragon Ball Super manga has been on hiatus since last year, when Toyotarou released Dragon Ball Super Chapter 104. As it stands, the manga is currently 24 volumes long, and while Toyotarou teased the series' return earlier this year, there's no telling when the Black Frieza Saga will begin in earnest. While the fans wait Dragon Ball Super Chapter 105, the official one Dragon Ball The site has opened a new poll for its “Super Cover Gallery.”

In Japan, every copy of Dragon Ball Super the manga includes an alternate cover under the tankōbon's protective cover. These alternate covers are always remixes of the original cover, drawn by Toyotarou. Especially the alternate versions of Dragon Ball Super Manga covers often discard Goku in favor of highlighting other characters. More than anyone, Vegeta has the most alternate covers to his name, reinforcing his role as Dragon Ballco-leader.

CC Vegeta, CC Goku and CC Trunks

Dragon Ball: 5 Strongest CC Saiyans, Ranked

The CC Saiyans are the most powerful Saiyans in the entire Dragon Ball franchise, eclipsing anything Goku and Vegeta can achieve canonically.

Vegeta takes Goku's focus in rare alternate covers for Dragon Ball Super Manga

Vegeta shines as Dragon Ball Super's true main character

Vegeta already feels like he is Dragon Ball Supers real protagonist. He fights more often than Goku, gets more character development, and has a deeper and more personal connection to each Saga's storyline. Dragon Ball Super Volumes 1, 9, 11, and 14 all replace Goku with Vegeta, to mark the Prince of All Saiyans' growing prominence. IN Dragon Ball Super Volume 1, Vegeta can be seen riding Porunga in a callback to the original Dragon Balls first volume where Goku rode Shenron.

Dragon Ball Super Volume 9 replaces Ultra Instinct Goku with Super Saiyan Blue Evolved Vegeta fighting Jiren instead. Dragon Ball Super Volume 11 moves Vegeta from the background to front and center, where he can be seen eating a delicious hamburger in casual clothes. Dragon Ball Super Volume 14 was the last volume to put Vegeta on the cover, which shows him in a Galactic Patrol uniform as he looks down on the planet Yardrat to train for his final battle with Moro.

Dragon Ball Super's My Favorite Cover Survey

The winner will receive a brand new alternate cover designed by Toyotarou. Voting officially opened on May 9, 2026 and closes on May 31, 2026 at 23:59 JST. Dragon Ball fans can vote once each day to guarantee that their favorite set of volumes will win the My Favorite Cover Poll.

Last year's My Favorite Cover Poll focused on the original 42 volumes from Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga. The winners were Dragon Ball Volume 42, 1 and 27. Volume 42 features Goku waving goodbye to the reading, Volume 1 features Goku riding Shenron, and Volume 27 puts stunning artwork of Frieza, Super Saiyan Goku, and Piccolo front and center.
