Updates on CI Games upcoming Lords of the Fallen 2 have been slow since the game's reveal last year; however, the development team has revealed artwork of what the game's female armor sets will look like, sparking some controversy. Lords of the Fallen 2 is the sequel to the 2023 century Lords of the Fallenwhich itself is a reboot of the 2014 game of the same name, but developed by a new studio.
The reboot in 2023 of Lords of the Fallen was a fairly well-received entry in the ever-growing soulslike genre, but unfortunately launched with several bugs and balancing issues that were all ironed out in the months and years that followed, with the game receiving updates as late as December 2025. In what seems like a fairly quick time frame to turn around a sequel, CI-deck is currently developing a sequel. Lords of the Fallen 2which was revealed at GamesCom 2025 and will be released later this year. However, CI Games has been the subject of controversy in recent months. Marek Tyminski, CEO of the Polish development studio, has made several comments about being anti-politically correct and has even publicly criticized former CI Games developers on social media. As Lords of the Fallen 2 continues development, Tyminski has also been vocal about the upcoming Soulslike with “attractive female characters,” which has also sparked a lot of controversy.

Lords of the Fallen 2 officially revealed at Gamescom
A sequel to 2023's popular action-adventure title Lords of the Fallen reboot is revealed during Gamescom's Opening Night Live showcase.
Lords of the Fallen 2's female armor sets revealed to mixed reviews
Now CI Games is showing what it means by “attractive female characters” with a sponsored YouTube video by TheBackgroundNPC that showcases key art from Lords of the Fallen 2 in collaboration with the studio. The 21-minute long video is more or less a thesis on why TheBackgroundNPC feels like western female character designs are actually bad for femininity and how the more risque character designs in the upcoming soulslike are what fans really want. The official one Lords of the Fallen The X account even posted a promo for the five female armor sets that TheBackgroundNPC showed off, stating that they are the fierce, beautiful and provocative female armor designs that players want.

Fan response to the sponsored video and the five female armor designs has been mixed, to say the least. Users across X and Reddit have been quick to scoff Lords of the Fallen 2's female armor set, saying that these pieces of armor are not only impractical levels that defy disbelief, but they also lose too much in the fanservice aspect of their aesthetic. Meanwhile on Lords of the Fallen subreddit, CI Games developers upload videos of actual female armor in the game that seems much more practical and not as exposed. These more modest, ongoing female armors are far better received than what has been posted on X and YouTube. Also, a developer has said so Lords of the Fallen 2 will feature over 100 armor sets, with extensive customization options.
CI Games states that these armor pieces were made with fans in mind, but that also leaves the question of how much say fans should really have in a game's development. The 2023 century Lords of the Fallen became an excellent game after factoring in tons of player feedback to polish it over months and years, but that's fundamentally different from having a say in a video game's aesthetic choices. CI Games currently seems content to outsource the creative vision for Lords of the Fallen 2 to fans on the internet and sponsored YouTubers. Whether that strategy leads to a strong game with a cohesive vision remains to be seen.

Lords of the Fallen 2 still has some time left in development before release. From now on, Lords of the Fallen 2 seems to be aiming for a late summer 2026 launch window, giving the game a few more months in the oven if rumors are to be believed. However, it doesn't seem likely that CI Games will change any of the game's more controversial elements so close to a potential launch, but the full version will tell the whole story. Lords of the Fallen 2 could give FromSoftware some serious competition, but the studio's recent statements and optics could make those tops an uphill battle if controversies like this continue.
