Resident Evil Requiem Dev Reveals Camera Settings

With how fast video games are released these days, Resident Evil Requiem might as well be a lifetime ago. After all, it was released on February 27th, and we're already in the month of May.

That said, Requiem has had a lot of staying power, thanks in part to some player discoveries, like how to increase Leon's accuracy, or the fact that an entire “phantom chapter” was cut from the game.

Leon fires a chainsaw with his ax in Resident Evil Requiem.

Everything we want to see from Resident Evil Requiem's Story Expansion

Capcom has confirmed that lots of new content is coming to Resident Evil Requiem.

Now, via developer Koshi Nakanishi, who spoke to Denfaminico Gamer, we have a better idea of how Requiem players used the game's camera system, and whether they kept things as intended or switched things around.

It turns out that players were much more picky with Grace than they were with Leon.

For these players, the best decision was to do the Grace campaign in third person

The majority of players, roughly 90 percent, chose to play Leon's campaign in the recommended third-person perspective. As VideoGamesChronicle noted, Leon's appearances in RE games have historically been in third person, which makes the decision that much easier.

Still, 10 percent of players really wanted to feel like Leon Kennedy via first-person, and we can't blame them. After all, few video game protagonists are as cool as Leon S. Kennedy.

The same cannot be said for Grace's side, where only 60 percent of players used the first-person perspective. This means that the remaining 40 percent chose to play the game from a third-person POV.

Given how terrifying Grace's campaign can be at times, I don't blame anyone for changing things up.

Resident Evil Village made it a point to add a third-person camera perspective to its DLC expansion, so it's not like the perspective isn't favored by fans.

The data depends on the platform and region, and Nakanishi notes, “Players in Japan and other parts of Asia tend to prefer third-person shooters, while on PC, the number of players playing first-person shooters is increasing.”

Still, as surprising as the data may seem, Masato Kumazawa, a producer on Requiem, noted that it was actually par for the course for what they expected.

“From the development side, the results were pretty much as expected,” Kumazawa said.

So there you have it, Requiem may recommend certain camera settings, but players will ultimately choose what's best for them.
