With the Mortal Kombat 2 movie set for release in just a few days, fans of the series are probably wondering what NetherRealm Studios is cooking up. You'd think the developers would want to capitalize on the movie, but there's been plenty of evidence that the studio's next fighter will be Injustice 3.
Last May, a reliable leaker hinted that a new Injustice game could be in the works after MultiVersus was shut down. After that, Superman voice actor George Newbern reportedly let it slip at a fan meeting that he's working on Injustice 3. On the developer side, NetherRealm posted a job listing for QA testers earlier this month, suggesting the project may be nearing its testing phase. This time, however, it appears that a developer may have namedropped Injustice 3 outright.
More evidence of Injustice 3 is piling up
As discovered by MP1st, the resume of a developer currently working at Warner Bros. Games some of the projects they worked on. Along with two unannounced projects and Hogwarts Legacy 2, we can see Injustice 3 mentioned on it. The name of the developer has been withheld for confidentiality purposes.
It looks like Injustice 3 is becoming one of those that everyone knows is in production but hasn't been officially revealed yet, much like Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced recently. Given how Injustice 2 ended, depending on your choices, the writers obviously had to pull something out of the Phantom Zone for the plot; which incidentally is where Superman was banished to at the end of Batman.
I'm not even sure I want Injustice 3 If It Means More Evil Superman
Evil Superman was a tired trope years ago, and Injustice finally needs to let him go.
NetherRealm made a habit of alternating between Mortal Kombat and Injustice games, and there's really no reason to think that will change things, even in lieu of the upcoming movie. Also, with James Gunn's DC Universe underway, perhaps Warner Bros. just want to step it up in the video game department as well.
If things continue like this, we might get screenshots or images from the game soon.
