Fortnite is making big changes to competitive events

In response to the recently mistakenly disqualified Fortnite players, Epic Games has announced that players will have another opportunity to participate in the Fortnite Championship Series with the addition of the Second Chance Qualifier. There are dozens Fortnite tournaments that take place every week, and it's a great way for players to put their skills to the test. Doing well in competitions allows players to make a name for themselves, gain access to cosmetics before they hit the store, and even win some cash.

These smaller competitions are great ways for highly skilled players to test themselves and practice against others of the same caliber. But every pro player's goal is to be good enough to qualify for the FNCS, the Fortnite Championship Series. The FNCS is a global event and the biggest Fortnite tournament in the world. Those who make it past this tournament's rigorous elimination phases will earn a spot in the Global Championship LAN Event.

Fortnite is creating a second chance qualifier for FNCS Major 1

Major 1 brings in players from the NAC and Europe, some of the most competitive regions in the scene, which is why it has its own separate LAN event to determine who advances to the finals. Unfortunately some Fortnite players were disqualified from the FNCS a few hours before the Major 1 finals. This was a result of vague terms and guidelines on Epic's part. The community and affected players immediately voiced their opinions, and thankfully the company has now come up with a solution. Division 1 players will have the opportunity to participate in a Second Chance Qualifier, giving them another chance to qualify for the Major 1 Summit.

The second chance draw will take place on Tuesday 28th April and Wednesday 29th April. All players in Division 1 can participate in the second chance qualifier. The top 50 duos from the first day will advance to day two, where they will have to battle it out in six final matches. As a consequence of these changes, the Major 1 Summit LAN event will be extended by one day and will last a total of three days instead. Since 150 players will compete in this event, the prize pool will also be increased. The top 15 teams go to the grand final of the Global Championship in November.

This drama stemmed from Epic Games disqualifying players due to their use of unauthorized software that gave them an unfair competitive advantage. This software was able to analyze game files and come up with an exact route for the Battle Bus, allowing players to plan their landing and gain an early game lead. Fans and participants argued that the tournament rules did not specify that this type of tool was prohibited and should have at least given the players a warning before they were completely removed from the competition.

By the time Epic Games admitted its error in this ordeal, it was already too late, as the Major 1 finals had begun, and it was impossible for these players to participate anymore. Fans were especially upset by the fact that one of the most famous Fortnite Esports player and former world champion, Bugha, would not get a chance to make it to the finals in 2026. Thankfully, a solution has been created to ease players' minds.
