Ubisoft is reportedly working on another Assassin's Creed remake as well Black flag resyncedseveral trusted insiders have claimed. The alleged project could be the last remake of the series for a while and is expected to hit the market after Assassin's Creed: Black Flag resynced.
Ubisoft formally announced Assassin's Creed 4 remake on April 23 to largely positive buzz online. Still, the reveal itself hardly surprised many fans, as the project has been one of the company's worst-kept secrets for a while, with its development details leaked on numerous occasions over the past few years.
Second Assassin's Creed remake reportedly in development at Ubisoft
A notably more unexpected claim was made during the latest episode of the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast on April 24, where editor-in-chief Tom Henderson said that Ubisoft is also working on another Assassin's Creed remake. Henderson described the alleged project as focusing on one of the franchise's earliest games, albeit without identifying it by name. If it really exists, the mystery game will almost certainly launch after that Assassin's Creed: Black Flag resynced will be released in July 2026, not least because Ubisoft hasn't even officially announced it yet.
French YouTuber and frequent Assassin's Creed leaker j0nathan substantiated the report two days later, saying he had heard something similar from one of his contacts back in 2023. His April 26 tweet even went one step further than Henderson by suggesting that the goal of the second remake is hardly a mystery as the project will likely focus on the original Assassin's Creed game. He framed the claim as an educated guess rather than the insider information he is known to share at one point.
While Black flag got priority treatment because it's a fan-favorite entry in the series, the first Assassin's Creed is by far the most in need of a remake among the mainline games. Released in November 2007, the Ubisoft Montreal-made title is noticeably rougher around the edges than its sequel, suffering from the most repetitive mission structure and most one-dimensional combat in the franchise. In terms of movement flexibility, its parkour isn't the most restrictive, but its controls can come across as clumsy when faced with modern fan sensibilities.

All of this makes it hypothetical Assassin's Creed 1 redo a much more transformative project compared to Black flag resynced. The latter already had a broader foundation to build on, with naval combat, hunting, exploration, and a more cinematic story structure that still holds up better than many elements of the 2007 original. In addition, Assassin's Creed 1 remains the only major release never to have been ported to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S. Its remake would thus give Ubisoft a chance to preserve one of the franchise's most defining stories while rebuilding much of the experience around modern franchise standards, looking to appeal to an entire generation of gamers who didn't get a chance to experience the start of their billion-dollar franchise. In the meantime, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag resyncedwithout the “4”, will be released on July 9, 2026.
