My The Hollower Has Gone Gold

If you're a fan of Yacht Club Games, you've probably heard that Mina the Hollower is set to release, only for a delay to strike and crush dreams. Such was the case last year, when Mina the Hollower was given an October 31st release date, only for the title to be delayed indefinitely right before its release.

Well, we're here to report that Mina the Hollower has officially gone gold, which means no more delays and a release date should be announced soon.

Taking to social media, Yacht Club Games has revealed that the game is complete and that the submission process has begun.

Mina the Hollower has officially gone GOLD! The game is complete and has begun the submission process with our first-party partners. We will know the final release date soon and as soon as we can share it you will know. Thanks for sticking with us. “We will know the final release date soon and as soon as we can share it you will know,” the studio wrote. “Thanks for joining us. We can't wait for you to play!”

Considering the game was announced back in 2022, complete with a Kickstarter campaign to help fund things, it's been a long time coming, to say the least.

“Mina the Hollower is a bone-chilling action-adventure with classic gameplay featuring an 8-bit aesthetic reminiscent of the Game Boy Color but refined for the modern era,” the original announcement from Yacht Club Games read in part.

Given previous reports, it couldn't come soon enough for Yacht Club Games seemingly betting on Mina the Hollower to be a huge success.

Mina The Hollower is seemingly a make-or-break title

In December, a report from Bloomberg revealed that Yacht Club Games is in some serious financial danger. To remain independent, Mina the Hollower would need to be an impressive success, its numerous delays certainly not helping its case.

“It's clearly make-or-break,” studio founder Sean Velasco said. “If we sold 500,000 copies, then we'd be golden. If we sold even 200,000, that would be really good. If we sold, like, 100,000, that's not so good.”

As with many other similar titles, the COVID-19 pandemic impacted Yacht Club's ability to ramp up production of its next major title following the success of Shovel Knight. That, plus internal conflicts that created bottlenecks and eventually caused a director change, haven't helped matters either.

The fact that Gold is finally gone is a positive step forward. But the Yacht Club is almost certainly waiting for sales figures more than anything else.
