When a television adaptation of Baldur's Gate 3 was announced earlier this year, reactions were decidedly mixed. Many fans weren't convinced the game even needed an adaptation, and Larian's head of publishing took to social media to echo those concerns.
Others, however, have been more open to the idea. Larian boss Swen Vincke and Astarion actor Neil Newbon have responded positively to the news and hope fans will give the show a chance.
Now Jennifer English is voicing her support for the show as well. Speaking to me on the BAFTA Games Awards red carpet, English said she's a huge fan of Craig Mazin's work and can't wait to see how he handles Baldur's Gate 3.
Jennifer English is excited to see the Baldur's Gate 3 show
“I'm so excited about what they have in store,” English tells me when asked about the Baldur's Gate 3 show. “[Craig Mazin] has an incredible track record.”
She goes on to express her love for his earlier works, particularly Chernobyl. But that's not the only reason she had confidence in the show: “I know he's a big fan of the game, so I'm sure he'll do it justice.”
Lune's cast in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 ships her with Sciel as well
The Lune and Sciel is a popular ship in Clair Obscur, and at least one of the official voice actors is on board.
At this time, it is unclear if the original cast will reprise their roles for the show. Newbon has thrown his hat in the ring for Astarion, but has admitted that the role could go to someone else for the adaptation. So it seems no casting decisions have been made yet, giving the actors a chance to play their characters in live action.
Right now we only know that it will continue the story from the end of the game. Presumably this involves establishing that certain decisions were made, as there are multiple endings for both the world and the companions themselves.
In any case, Mazin won't start work on the Baldur's Gate 3 show until he's done with The Last of Us. We now know that season three of The Last of Us could be the last, despite previous hints that it could have been longer, so we don't have too long to wait – just don't expect many updates on the Baldur's Gate front anytime soon.
