Forza Horizon 6 releases on May 18, and it makes for the most fun game possible

Timing is everything in the gaming industry, with an ironic vehicle simulation game releasing on May 19 – the same day as Forza Horizon 6. Basically, it would be possible (with a little imagination) to roleplay tearing up the streets of Japan in Forza Horizon 6 and then have to repair the car in the simulation game Drive Me Broke. It's uncertain if this is intentional, but it's funny timing nonetheless.

Intentional or not, it is possible that such timing helps boost sales of Drive Me Broke. Major developers are avoiding the November 2026 release date due to Grand Theft Auto 6because it would hurt sales, while Expedition 33 really benefited (to some extent) from the player's push despite its proximity to Oblivion remastered. And it seems that Guerrilla is somewhat cursed, as innovative games tend to be released when it wants to release a new Horizon game.

Forza Horizon 6 Hands-on Preview: A breathtaking road trip through Japan

From speeding through the streets of Tokyo or drifting corners in the Japanese Alps, Forza Horizon 6 is a full-throttle driving experience.

What is Drive Me Broke, the vehicle simulation game to chase your first playthrough of FH6?

While there will be much to enjoy Forza Horizon 6their perception of Japan, Drive Me Broke offers a different view of racing. IN Forza Horizon 6player is a rookie joining the Horizon Festival who must work his way up to Racing Legend status. IN Drive Me Brokeplayer is someone who wants to become a racing legend, but they are strapped for money because vehicle repairs are costly.

Drive Me Broke is a hybrid driving sim, survival game and life sim game all rolled into one where players start with nothing, grind their way up and eventually, hopefully, build their dream car. They do this by working odd jobs, cashing in on that work, dumping it all into a race car (as one does) and repeating, all the while building a reputation and keeping their character alive through survival game features like hunger and thirst. Anyone who has ever skipped a meal while working on a vehicle will understand.

Drive Me Broke odd jobs

  • Moonlight
  • Towing service
  • Poultry farming
  • Scrapping

Car customization at a high level may not last Forza Horizon 6s, but it's deep and gives players more physical control over everything from brakes and headlights to engines and interiors. Once the car is running, players can switch it into different modes to win trophies before returning to the gate to keep it running.

Car customization features

  • 100+ detailed parts
  • Customized Bodykit
  • Realistic physics
  • Spray painting
  • 9+ wheel styles

Additionally, players will be able to build relationships with NPCs for new opportunities and rewards Drive Me Broke—players are even asked to scare someone by throwing a rock through a window. Drive Me Broke is a bit all over the place, fair enough, but it's a fun game loop that many gears might be familiar with.

In short, Drive Me Broke is about the stress of becoming a racing legend, where car building, survival mechanics and more are combined in a unique racing sandbox.

Hustle in the Horizon Festival

If Drive Me Broke is about hustle, that is Forza Horizon 6 is about the imagination. Drive Me Brokepseudo-realistic, aims to gamify the steps of repairing vehicles due to a racing habit. Forza Horizon 6 is about what some gearboxes imagine racing to be. It bears repeating that players can experience the fantasy of Forza Horizon 6and while they certainly won't be able to beat it, they can then check out Drive Me Broke. Which makes me smile every time I think about this timing.

For those who haven't been keeping up with the latest news, Forza Horizon 6 is the biggest open-world driving game for the franchise to date. There is a sharp contrast in the map choices in the countryside and in the city FH6lots of verticality and lots of unique driving experiences. In addition, Tokyo is also the largest urban area ever in one Forza Horizon game. Players also have access to over 550 world cars, must travel as a tourist through Japanese racing culture, become a racing legend in Horizon Festival, build a Valley Estate, buy homes and show off your prized car collection.

Car culture in Forza Horizon 6 and Drive Me Broke

Ultimately, Forza Horizon 6 is a AAA game with a huge budget compared to Drive Me Brokebut they both represent their aspect of car culture well. The former is the fabled, polished racing dream where someone steps into the world and catapults to the top based on natural skill. The latter is about simulating reality and the stress that skill cannot compensate for. Each Drive Me Broke upgrading has a price, every race has a count, and success is as important, if not more so, than survival. In theory, all of this is true for everyone Forza Horizon games too, but there's a skipped, simulated benefit in just being able to ignore it. It's so nice with games, where both of these perspectives are fun.

Overall, there is the obvious overhead contrast in how Forza Horizon 6 is the racing dream and Drive Me Broke is the reality of racing, but the two are not so much opposites as separate viewpoints on the same obsession: the world defined by engines, customization and competition. As such, it can be really fun to go from playing one to the other, but it's also almost a game loop in itself. Race and fantasize, work and fix.
