A Blood borne the film is officially in the works with Sony Pictures, which is a surprising direction for the franchise, but that's not even the most surprising aspect of the upcoming film. Yes, with everything that revolves around Blood borne IP, a movie message comes from left field.
Blood borne has made headlines a handful of times in recent weeks and months for its pseudo-association with Bluepoint Games, for fan demand for a remake, and the annual Return to Yharnam event. The big picture is simple: many, many fans have long wanted proper remasters/remakes/updates for Blood borne on PS5. Blood borne developer FromSoftware is incredibly busy, so for a long time fans were hoping that Bluepoint would take on the project. When PlayStation ended Bluepoint Games in March, fans believed it Blood borne the trip was completely over.
Bloodborne fans are running out of time to experience the Return to Yharnam 2026 event
Another year means another Return to Yharnam event for Bloodborne fans, but they'd better act fast to avoid missing out.
Bloodborne animated movie announced, JackSepticEye attached
Now it just seems to be changing form as a cruel horror. Sanford Panitch, CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, announced the R-Rated, animated feature film for Blood borne at CinemaCon. Panitch also said the film will stay “very true” to the twisted, bloody spirit Blood borneas well as the twisted, Lovecraftian depictions of Yharnam. It remains to be seen what that will look like, but there are a couple of names already attached to the project – as first reported by Variety.
The film is co-produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation and – perhaps most surprisingly – content creator Sean McLoughlin who you may know better as JackSepticEye. A big fan of Blood borneJackSepticEye has also used his acting and content creation skills beyond his streaming career, including several appearances as himself, a role as Punch Up in Dispatch, and various roles in film and TV. His most recent appearance is as the character Jack in Markipliers Iron lung film adaptation.
What is not surprising is that this announcement comes so soon after the release of Super Mario Galaxy film, although the connection is tenuous and temporary at best. Video game adaptations have put up some big numbers at the box office, with Super Mario Bros. Film hits it big before its sequel and Minecraft movie that attracts a lot of attention. Sony and PlayStation Productions are also working on a film adaptation of Miscellaneouswhile other movies like The Legend of Zelda is on the horizon.

While recent game adaptations have been incredibly popular, it remains to be seen how Blood borne is received. It's not a remaster, a PS5 60fps update, or a sequel. It's unclear if FromSoftware is even involved, though it seems likely given the respectful relationship between FromSoftware and PlayStation. Perhaps the film acts as a catalyst for an expansion of Blood borne IP. Ultimately, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group has signaled its growing confidence in game-to-film adaptations, even for complex IPs like Bloodborne. Whether it lives up to the expectations of FromSoftware's cult classic or instead reinterprets its nightmare logic for a new medium, it underscores how PlayStation Productions is expanding its transmedia strategy.
