New Horizons Update 3.0.2 adds a new item

In November 2021, Nintendo confirmed that update 2.0 would be the last for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The annual events would still appear, but there would be no more new additions to one of its best-selling games of all time. That was until late last year, when version 3.0 was revealed, along with a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game.

Given that Nintendo had promised to end support four years earlier, it came as a huge surprise, and the assumption was that it would indeed be, with Nintendo putting New Horizons to rest.

However, just in time for the series' 25th anniversary, Nintendo has released another update, which consists mostly of bug fixes, but includes a brand new item to celebrate the latest milestone.

Animal Crossing was originally an N64 title in Japan, known as Dōbutsu no Mori, released on April 14, 2001. It came to the West a year later, with the Nintendo GameCube version of Animal Crossing.

In its official patch notes for today's update, Nintendo reveals that, a quarter of a century since the release of Dōbutsu no Mori, “A commemorative 25th anniversary of the Animal Crossing series has been added.” That object is the series' signature blade logo in the form of a giant, village-sized statue.

Alongside the celebratory item, Nintendo revealed that the following bugs have been fixed:

  • Fixed an issue in hotel rooms where furniture placement or guest behavior could prevent leaving the room.

  • Fixed an issue where crafting multiple items at once with a DIY recipe that requires six types of materials could sometimes be completed even without enough materials.

  • Fixed an issue where a dung beetle that appeared on a snowball could remain on screen after the snowball disappeared.

  • Fixed an issue where items could pop out of a rock before the shovel made contact when hitting it.

    • This issue was addressed in Ver. 3.0.1, but can still occur under certain conditions, so it has been fixed again.

  • Fixed an issue where bringing player-created custom designs to a Slumber Island could prevent them from appearing on Able Sisters or being uploaded to the Custom Design Portal.

  • Fixed an issue where glowing spots on the island did not appear to glow when viewing the island from the plane when returning from another island.

  • Fixed an issue where villagers who had promised to visit the player's home could sometimes appear in unnatural locations inside the house.

  • Other tweaks and fixes were made to improve the gaming experience.

Changes to DLC

The following issues related to the paid DLC “Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise” have been fixed.

  • Fixed an issue where animals requesting holiday homes stopped appearing on the beach even when some animals still do not have holiday homes.

With six years having passed since the release of New Horizons, it feels like high time we got a new Animal Crossing. For now, however, Pokopia fills that void.
