How to use the repair bench in Soulmask

Repairs items in Soul mask can be done by hand or through a repair bench. The latter tends to be the superior option, as not all equipment can be repaired by hand. Repair benches also allow your tribesmen to automatically patch up their broken gear when needed, saving you tons of time and effort in keeping your entire tribe running efficiently. If you're having trouble figuring out how to repair things in the soul mask, here is a quick summary of what you need to do.

If you use basic implements made of wood, stone or bone, you can repair them directly from your inventory by right-clicking on the item and selecting the Repair option. To do this, you need to have the right materials needed to repair your equipment. If you stand within range of your Bonfire, the required materials will automatically be retrieved from any nearby storage boxes, meaning you don't have to manually retrieve items.

First, unlock the repair bench node on the tech tree (it's in the Medium Craftsmanship node under the second level), then build one for your base. Interact with it and you'll see a grid on the right where you can put all your broken gear. If you press the Repair button under that grid, the Repair Bench will automatically repair all the gear in that grid for you one by one.

Can you automate repairs with a repair bench?

When you write, it's hard to tell if tribesmen actually automatically repair their broken gear using a repair bench. We did once catch one of our tribesmen fixing their scythe at one point, but that was while we were testing repair automation, so we're not entirely sure if the NPC repairing their gear was the reaper who owned the scythe, or the dedicated repairman we deployed to retrieve broken gear from a nearby crate. The game's automation logic is a bit funky when it comes to automating gear repairs, and we're still trying to find a way to make this work.

Regardless, if you want to check and see for yourself if Repair Bench automation works, make sure to create an automatic repair plan by clicking the big plus sign on the Repair Bench menu and assigning one of your people to be the specific Repair Bench caretaker. Ordering NPCs to retrieve items from specific crates can help with automation, but make sure the auto-storage feature in the Repair Bench is turned off.

Attacks from enemies will usually leave some of your facilities damaged, and if so, you can repair your base (including your boat, if you're playing on the Shifting Sands map) by crafting a Construction Hammer. The recipe for this can be found under the Medium Building node in the Dawn of the New Tribe level.

When you equip your Construction Hammer, a list of controls will appear on your screen, and you'll be able to see the health values of the building pieces your crosshair hovers over. Press the left mouse button to repair whatever you are aiming at. This will use up building materials, and if you don't have any in your inventory, the game will automatically use those stored in your chests and boxes, provided they are within your boat/fireplace's building range.
