The story of Silent Hill releases have seen some serious ups and downs over the years. After the original game was released in 1999, the series was released every other year until 2007. That year saw the release of Silent Hill: Origins for PSP, along with several mobile spin-offs and an arcade disc giveaway. Over the next three years, Silent Hill saw an annual mainline release, with Home-coming released in 2008 and Worn memories 2009. Although a mobile spin-off was released in 2010, the next main line Silent Hill the game would be released in 2012 with the critically panned Rain showerwhich began the franchise's hiatus.
Even if PT raised hopes for one Silent Hill revival in 2014, its quick cancellation and delisting from the PlayStation Store would cement the series as dead for the foreseeable future. Technically, 2023 was the start of Silent Hills great revival with the release of Silent Hill: Ascensionan interactive horror TV series set in the franchise's universe, but the first true new entry in the franchise wouldn't be released until 2024 with Silent Hill: The Short Message. Despite its mixed reviews and piecemeal story, The short message set the scene for Silent Hill 2 Remakewhich received tons of praise from fans and served as the true starting point for the series' ongoing generational run.

Comparatively, Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill b stands at 87 and 86 OpenCritic review scores, respectively. In addition, Silent Hill 2 Remake was nominated for five awards at The Game Awards 2024, and Silent Hill b received three nominations at The Game Awards 2025. While the jury is still out on how Silent Hill: Townfall will be received by fans and critics alike, the recent trend of accolades the series has seen is a hopeful sign of continued acclaim.
The Silent Hill 1 remake may continue this trend

It's possible that this remake could be targeting a 2027 release date to keep this annual Silent Hill the release trend continues, but with Bloober Team also just released Cronos: The New Dawnit is unclear how far into the development Silent Hill 1 Remake is. However, this paints a potential picture of how the series could release new releases going forward, using Bloober Team for remakes mixed with brand new releases from other studios that Silent Hill b developer NeoBards or Silent Hill: Townfall developer Screen Burn Interactive.

Silent Hill's future as a series has never been brighter
What was considered a dead franchise just a few years ago is now back in full swing, reaching heights not seen in over 20 years. Depending on how Silent Hill: Townfall is performing critically and commercially, Konami may have found the secret formula for success that could lead to Silent Hill franchise into a new golden era, even if it means moving away from the town of Silent Hill itself. It's strange to say it, but 2026 is the best time to be one Silent Hill hell, and it's not something that could have been predicted even five years ago.
