New PSN horror game starring Nathan Drake

It's been 10 years since Nathan Drake took players on an emotional journey in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, which served as the capstone to a fierce treasure hunter's four-chapter journey. Lost Legacy, an Uncharted 4 spinoff with two separate characters, has been around for almost as long.

Some might say it's high time for a comeback. Others are perfectly happy with Nate's poignant conclusion. Regardless of which side of the aisle you're on, you probably didn't expect our boy's return to be “we've got Resident Evil at home”, and frankly, I highly doubt Sony anticipated that either.

No, uh, yes, it's definitely you, Nate

Enter… 28 Floors: Outbreak. Does that sound like 28 days later? Great! It probably is, so let's click buy. Does it look like Resident Evil? Great! It probably is, so let's click buy. Oh, smart consumer, weren't you fooled by any of the aforementioned little scams? Here's another one. Isn't that Nathan Drake from Naughty Dog's highly successful Uncharted series? Great! It probably is, so let's click buy.

At least that's the only thing I can imagine was going through the minds of studio Witenovastudio OÜ when they revealed this thing. 28 Floors: Outbreak is available on wishlist right now, at PlayStation Networkbecause apparently the developers never read the one about Ikaros and the sun. The screenshots mainly feature the protagonist's hands as he reaches out to do dramatic things like save a creepy test sample (press x) or an injured doctor (press circle), but the cover image – the one everyone will see first – features Sir Francis Drake's villainous descendant helping the aforementioned doctor push down a corridor.

28 Floors: Outbreak also includes great visuals like the one seen above, where the hero wraps a bloody bandage around his wrist. You can really feel the passion. On ResetEra, people are tearing Outbreak apart, and if you squint, you'll find evidence that you're actually commenting on this disaster-in-the-making video game hours before my decision to actually write about it in a vaguely professional way.

I'm not sure what Witenovastudio OÜ thinks it's getting away with here. Sony shot down Lights of Motiram, a Horizon clone. Is the bet on the table that they won't go for a game that doesn't look like Uncharted, save for the very obviously ripped off main character? I guess? Perhaps? Or are the developers really bullish that PlayStation doesn't care about protecting the image of one of the most historically important fictional characters in its decades-long history?

Uh, 28 Floors: The breakout is, um, apparently due to launch in 2027. I wouldn't bet on it, Nate.

groudon colosseum

A year later and Pokemon fans are still waiting for Colosseum on Switch 2

Instead we got its sequel (XD: Gale of Darkness), which is just as confusing.
