In just under 8 months, Grand Theft Auto 6 will finally drop, setting the world on fire and no doubt breaking considerable records in the process. So far, we've heard very few concrete details about the game in GTA 6 (in addition to what we can glean from the game's trailers), including what form the game's multiplayer component will take.
Now we have our first details on Grand Theft Auto 6s multiplayer, and it sounds like Rockstar Games is taking realism to a new level with its online component. While this new approach may be seen as controversial, it sure has players talking.
First Grand Theft Auto 6 Multiplayer News
These first Grand Theft Auto 6 multiplayer details come courtesy of Rockstar Games producer Biko Nellic, who explained that players need to be more careful about their actions in the online world. It is because Grand Theft Auto 6 Online will actually punish players for their crimes, forcing them to pay in-game fines or even serve in-game penalties.
Rockstar chooses to inject the most extreme form of realism it can, by asking its players to follow the rules as they would (or at least I hope they would) go about their daily lives. If GTA 6 players choose to step outside the boundaries of the team and commit a crime, then they get to do the time, as they say.
Although it is unclear how each crime entered Grand Theft Auto Online will be punished, some of which Rockstar was willing to confirm are:
-
Littering: $10,000 Fine
-
Grand Theft Auto: 23 Hour Sentence
-
Speeding: 2 hour penalty
-
Discharging a firearm: 10 hours sentence
-
Public intoxication: $90,000 fine
Of course, the penalty only applies if the player is caught, and that's where things get interesting Grand Theft Auto 6 multiplayer. Just like in the single-player portion, if players are found committing a crime, it will trigger pursuit from the Vice City police. Depending on the severity of the crime, the police will pursue the player and the harder it will be to escape. Should players manage to evade the police, their crime will be waived.
Grand Theft Auto 6 takes realism to the next level
For a while now have Grand Theft Auto the series has played fast and loose with how it incorporates real-world laws into its virtual experience. Players can run over civilians, let gunfire rule over a boulevard, or take huge amounts of cash and get away without a shot. Since then, however, there has been a greater focus on realism in the world of video games, and Rockstar Games has always been at the forefront of innovation. That innovation has shown itself in many ways, from realistic interactions with NPCs to the subtle details of nature seen in Red Dead Redemption 2.
While I'm sure more details will be revealed about Grand Theft Auto 6 Online in the coming months, this first little tease should be enough to get fans speculating. Rockstar Games likes to play things close to the west when it comes to reveals, so the fact that they were willing to give fans this bit of information, and on April 1st no less, is promising.
The bigger question, however, is whether GTA onlinethe next iteration will be launched along with Grand Theft Auto 6 release date in November or if it comes sometime later. Those who lived when Grand Theft Auto 5 was released 50 years ago remember it GTA online was not available at launch, but two weeks later. And the launch was a bit of a mess, but don't worry about it.
