One of the most important, unanswered questions in any game is what would happen to the inhabitants Animal Crossing staged a revolution, if not against the greedy tanuk Tom Nook then apparently a hidden oppressive regime in the background? Apparently a reasonable answer is that it would be a musou game which Dynasty Warriorsbecause this is exactly the mood of the upcoming action adventure Steam game Verminsteel.
Verminsteel doesn't yet have a release window, but it can be wishlisted on Steam now. It comes from developer Glass Bottom Games, which may not be a household name, but it has produced several strong games over the years. Before Verminsteelincluding this Jones on Fire, Hot Tin Roof, Spartan Fistand Skatebird. And yes, every game is basically as chaotic as Verminsteel.

Are you and your friend looking for free co-op fun? Then try the following great games on Steam.
What is Verminsteel?
At its core, Verminsteel is a game about animals doing things for people. Players, human or otherwise, step into the shoes of a bird wielding a broadsword as they fight back against thousands of fascists. Players can reportedly kick them so hard that they fly into the sun, as players not only oppose this fascist occupation, but help defend the helpless and push back the fascist regime, the titular Verminsteel, out of Fragaria – a fictional country. Maybe the real one Verminsteel is what makes people play games about animals that make people things.
Players are not alone, they can bring a badger with pickaxes, a mouse with a frying pan and a plethora of molotovs. Allies are needed in these battles against thousands (making it an excellent musuo game), as well as with weapons. According to the Steam page's description, players will be able to wield “swords, molotovs, frying pans and more” as they claim strategic points, “go toe-to-toe with their powerful leaders” and push back the enemy.

Players can collect combos through these battles in the Fragarian countryside, with Verminsteel enemies consisting of hostile rats, pigs, hawks, rods, and more (not to be confused with the non-hostile villagers in Animal Crossing). As players complete missions, they will be able to rescue townspeople and receive gifts from them, including new weapons, new combat skills, and more.
No GenAI is used in the development of Verminsteel. According to developer Glass Bottom Games, “we have no truck with that nonsense.”

Verminsteel
Many believe that a studio's credits and creations can inform people about their next project. And while that's a simplification in most cases, Glass Bottom Games has a simple mission: memorable games about animals doing things for people. It should not be a surprise, then, that the games before Verminsteel has anthropomorphic animals that do things for humans, although at one point it was just weird little people doing things for humans with animals. TV game.
Jones on Firefor example, is a 2-button endless running game where players dodge flames and rescue kittens. This is also a prequel to another Hot Tin Roof: The Cat Who Wore a Fedoraas shared protagonist Emma Jones is a firefighter turned PI. In fact, she even teams up with Franky the Cat for “noir as heck” adventures in Warm tin roof. Warm tin roof sees Emma and Franky explore 4 distinct plans with multiple endings in an adventure game.
Jones can't cut it as a PI either, and turns to fighting. spartan Fist is a first-person brawling roguelite game where players try to win the Spartan Fist, once again as Emma Jones, a perfectly normal human. Skatebird fixed? It replaces humans with BIRDs, who do their absolute best in a skateboarding game like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series. Forget Emma Jones, forget people on it, because none of them are present in Skatebird or Verminsteel.

Wishlist Verminsteel on Steam
Ultimately, Vermin teaI promise to be the chaotic, absurd and strangely heartwarming culmination of Glass Bottom Games' obsession with animals doing things to people. It's a simple, sweet premise applied to one of the most profound themes humanity has to offer: liberation in the face of fascist tyranny. No doubt fans of the studio will recognize the DNA Skatebird here, but Verminsteel is also its own thing (although both games involve birds).
Verminsteel feels like one of those games where one key feature invites you in and the rest hold you. And whether rescuing townspeople from certain death, beating rats into the sun, or the general mayhem of Verminsteel invites or holds you, it's clear that this is a game of revolution worth keeping an eye on.
