The next Overwatch hero has been revealed. Artwork of Hero 51 shows that she will be wielding a rifle and have access to a drone, likely making her a damage character.
We don't have a name yet, and the full Hero 51 reveal will come next week. However, this first look at her design may give away some of the gameplay, leaving us to speculate what her moveset will be.
Overwatch Team reveals new hero, likely a damaged character
This unnamed hero is dressed in some kind of military gear and has access to impressive weapons. Based on vibes alone, she seems connected to Overwatch, if not an actual full-fledged member of the good guys' side.
If I'm looking at the artwork correctly, she also has really long hair. Mad respect for her running around with that – and for throwing out enough pink hair dye to dip the ends in.
Of course, the presence of a gun and a drone would suggest that this is a damage hero, as both would be able to deal a punch. However, there is a chance that she is a support hero, and the gun will simply be her way of defending herself while the drone helps out her teammates. Supports don't need to be focused on healing, of course, and can instead buff their teammates and help them get the kills.
Anyway, we'll find out what her deal is when we get the full reveal next week. Besides getting to know her name, we'll also get a trailer that will likely go over her moveset and functionality.
Hero 51 is the first new hero to come to Overwatch since its major overhaul, which saw five new characters added to the roster. Her reveal so soon after this massive roster expansion signals that Blizzard is taking ongoing support much more seriously than it has in recent years, and is keen to avoid complaints that the game is becoming stale, especially compared to Marvel Rivals.
