Amazon's Tomb Raider has arrived, with new Lara Croft star Sophie Turner set to don the red glasses and akimbo guns for the first time. We haven't gotten much news about the show from Amazon, other than a brief look at Turner's Lara Croft and assurances from the actor herself that the show won't be about how smoking hot she is as a character.
However, it looks like we'll be waiting a little longer for any actual news about the show, as Amazon has announced that it will be “briefly pausing” production. Don't worry, it's not going anywhere and hasn't been canceled, but leading lady Sophie Turner appears to have suffered an injury that prevents her from filming.
We'll have to wait a little longer for Amazon's Tomb Raider
First reported by the BBC, a Prime Video spokesperson confirmed that Turner had suffered a “minor injury”, although they did not specify whether this happened off-set or during filming. They also gave no indication of when production will resume, so I'm guessing things are on hold until Turner is back to full fitness.
“As a precaution, production has been paused briefly to give her time to recover,” the spokesperson said. “We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.”
Amazon's Tomb Raider TV series wants to 'reinvent the franchise on a grand scale'
Looks like Lara Croft is in for another reboot.
Turner has been quite open about her difficulties preparing to play Lara Croft, revealing on The Julia Cunningham Show that she never really trained, so she had to spend months preparing. It was here that she also revealed that she discovered while filming that she has a “perpetual back problem”, so it's possible that she may have aggravated something, which led to her injury.
Of course, we don't know for sure what the injury is, but at least it doesn't sound too serious and that she will probably recover soon. All it really means is that we'll probably have to wait a little longer for any actual news on when we'll see, though it's probably worth the wait to ensure no one hurts themselves to get it out sooner.
