Nintendo seems to have big plans for the second half of 2026. A typically reliable insider when it comes to upcoming Nintendo plans has claimed that we'll get a new Star Fox game as well as a remake of a major Zelda game before the end of the year, but those waiting for a new 3D Mario game will be disappointed.
New Star Fox And A Legend Of Zelda Remake Reportedly Released This Year
The new information about what Nintendo is probably planning to reveal and release before the end of the year comes from a trusted insider, Natethehate. Nate said on his podcast that we're getting our first new Star Fox game in ten years later this year, along with a Zelda remake, and VGC has added that those claims are consistent with what they've heard from their own sources.
Claims that we're getting a new Star Fox game come hot on the heels of the character's Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which could explain why Nate has now chosen to drop this bombshell. There hasn't been a new Star Fox game since the Wii U, but fans of the series have already had their hopes up that could change after seeing his Galaxy movie poster.
When it comes to Zelda, Nintendo seems to try to release at least one new game in the series every year, whether it's a brand new version, a remaster, or, if Nate is right, a remake in 2026. The game at the top of most Zelda fans' wish lists when it comes to potential remakes is going to be Ocarina of Time, one of Zeld's best games ever made or otherwise. Today's leak brings us one step closer to making it a reality.
New Star Fox, Remade Zelda, But No 3D Mario
There's also the live-action Legend of Zelda movie to consider, which, as it stands, hits theaters in a year. Nintendo has given Mario fans the Super Mario Galaxy games on Switch and a Switch 2 edition of Mario Wonder in the build up to the Super Mario Galaxy Movies release. It will want new games in the minds of Zelda fans, old and new, when that movie comes out in 2027.
Speaking of Mario, the other big note Nate had was that there won't be a 3D Mario game coming out before the end of the year. Somewhat surprising, as it means the Switch 2 will potentially be at least two years old by the time it has its own original 3D Mario game. But if we do indeed get Star Fox and Zelda games in the second half of this year, a 3D Mario in the mix alongside them would potentially drown out the noise they'll inevitably make without having to compete for attention with Nintendo's leading man.
