Nintendo has released a new update for Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker on Switch and Switch 2. Even if it's just a small update it should do Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker fans using amiibo happy.
While Captain Toad first appeared in the original Super Mario Galaxythe character made his playable debut in Super Mario 3D Worldwith in puzzle levels. This led to bigger and better things for the adventurous Toad as he continued to record Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. The full-fledged game expanded on the levels from Super Mario 3D Worldchallenges players to collect Power Stars by altering the depth of the world around them to reveal secrets. After starting on the Wii U in 2014, the game was ported to the 3DS and Switch in 2018, expanding its reach. While some might have thought that the puzzle platformer had received updates 11 years after its original release, that is not the case.

After The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Nintendo series like Pikmin and Metroid deserve their shot on the big screen.
On March 25, Nintendo released a new update for Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. This new patch moved the game to version 1.4.2 and focused on amiibo. Specifically, the small update added support for Captain Toad & Talking Flower amiibo. It's worth noting that this update is for both the Switch and Switch 2 consoles and coincides with the launch of the new Captain Toad figure. In fact, Captain Toad & Talking Flower is part of a trio of Super Mario Bros. Wonder-themed amiibos. However, it seems that Captain Toad & Talking Flower is the only one that is compatible with Captain Toad: Treasure Trackeraccording to the patch notes. By scanning this amiibo in-game on either Switch or Switch 2, players can unlock in-game bonuses.

This amiibo update for Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker comes after a couple of updates for the game in 2025. Most notably, Nintendo rolled out a major patch last June, coinciding with the release of the Switch 2, that improved the experience for fans on the newer console. Take advantage of the more powerful hardware, the Switch 2 update for Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker included better picture quality, HDR (High Dynamic Range) support and GameShare functionality.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder gets Switch 2 Edition along with new Amiibos
Interesting, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker isn't the only first-party Nintendo game to receive an update recently. Also, Nintendo updated Super Mario Bros. Wonder to version 1.2.0. on March 25 and makes several tweaks for the Switch 2 Edition. Officially known as Super Mario Bros. Wonder — Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Parkthe new version of the game was released the following day on March 26, adding multiplayer attractions, new characters, and more. In addition Mario Wonder-themed amiibo also add bonuses for players to take advantage of.
The launch of these new amiibo and the support for them in older games such as Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker shows that Nintendo still has interest in its collection of collectibles. Besides Super Mario Bros. Wonder amiibos, the ones themed around Super Mario Galaxy and Kirby Air Riders will be released later this year. Also new Metroid figures launched at the end of 2025.
It will be interesting to see what other older games may receive seemingly random updates from Nintendo in the coming weeks. With more amiibo on the way, there's a chance Nintendo could release updates that include support for these new figures. Regardless, the latest amiibo-focused update for Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker could offer a good excuse for fans to return to one of Nintendo's more charming adventures from the 2010s.
