Sons of Sparta gets new update for March 2026

God of War: Sons of Sparta has received a new update that fixes a major bug and improves performance. Developed by Mega Cat Studio in collaboration with Santa Monica Studio, God of War: Sons of Sparta is a Metroidvania action platformer set in the iconic God of war universe. It follows the story of a young Kratos and his brother Deimos during their training as Spartan cadets. When one of the cadets mysteriously disappears, the brothers decide to embark on a journey to locate him and put their skills to the test.

Despite being a Metroidvania spin-off, the game is making waves in the industry. According to Circana's video game sales rankings, God of War: Sons of Sparta have managed to surpass titles such as Forza Horizon 5, Ghost of Yoteiand Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The game secured the 14th spot on the overall chart and debuted at number 6 on the PlayStation-specific chart. The spin-off is clearly a success story, but it's not without its fair share of problems, especially performance-related issues and bugs. However, it seems that Mega Cat Studios is now addressing these issues head-on with their latest update.

God of War Sons of Sparta co-op may not exist

God of War Sons of Sparta claims to have a 2-player co-op mode, but does it really?

God of War: Sons of Sparta's official PlayStation Store page listed a 2-player co-op mode, but players can't find it in-game.

God of War: Sons of Sparta's latest update fixes a major issue

Mega Cat Studios has just released Patch 1.0.0.7 for God of War: Sons of Spartaand it is now available for players to download. This update is around 2.3 GB in size, and it primarily introduces crucial changes to the save system, as new stability measures have been implemented to eliminate the chances of players experiencing save losses or resets related to the screenshot system. Additionally, the patch brings various tweaks and quality of life improvements to the game. While Mega Cat Studios hasn't detailed all the changes, players can expect improved game performance and smoother gameplay mechanics while adventuring through Laconia. As one of the best Metroidvania games on the market, fans are excited to see this update further improve the overall experience.

The update to save the system in God of War: Sons of Sparta Patch 1.0.0.7 is particularly significant. Ever since the game's launch, players have been dealing with issues related to saving their progress. Many players across platforms like Reddit and Twitter have shared that they have lost hours of gameplay, as the game failed to record their progress despite being saved. Some players were also dealing with frequent crashes around 14 to 16 hours into the game, causing their progress to roll back to much earlier stages. This issue became a major concern within the community, as players worried that their hard-earned progress could be lost at any moment.

Unfortunately, this is not the only problem God of War: Sons of Sparta currently dealing with. Several players have reported that the game continues to suffer from glitchy hitboxes, crashes, disappearing maps, and instances where they can't damage enemies, among other things. Mega Cat Studios has addressed some of these issues, including the co-op criticism in God of War: Sons of Sparta, by making the mode available right from the start of the game.

That said, players hope that the developers will also fix the more serious, game-breaking bugs in future updates. Fans also want to see God of War: Sons of Sparta get to PC. However, with reports suggesting that Sony may be pulling back on PC ports, there's a chance the game will never make it to other platforms. Only time will tell what Sony has planned for the future of this Metroidvania title.
