7 strongest characters who survived the God Valley incident

Few events in the chronology of One Piece cast a bigger shadow than the God Valley incident. Funnily enough, hardly anyone in the world One Piece even knew it was happening, given how the world government wiped out the island and all knowledge of the events there, but the truth remains. What's more, many characters who were there also endured, with only a few characters like Rocks D. Xebec losing their lives in God Valley.

In a way, the God Valley Incident was the first Marineford, a massive battle where many powerful parties collided in a messy showdown. It includes the dreaded Rocks Pirates, the mighty Roger Pirates, and definitely the most formidable members of the Navy, and even an Elder as well. Thus, One Piece fans can easily name the strongest characters at the time, with young survivors like Marshall D. Teach and the Figarland brothers growing up to become quite powerful in their own right decades later.

Kaido took the strongest devil fruit in God Valley

Kaido had to bludgeon Big Mom to get it

Several future members of the Four Emperors were present at the God Valley Incident all those years ago, even though Figarland Shanks was only a small boy at the time. An infant cannot rank among the strongest survivors at that time, but the likes of Kaido certainly can. At the time, Kaido was a member of the Rocks Pirates, as were a few other future emperors, and that alone spoke volumes for Kaido's power at the time.

Before eating the Fish-Fish Fruit: Azure Dragon Model, Kaido was already a tough customer, and after eating the astonishing Mythical Zoan Fruit, he became almost unstoppable. It was fun to watch him fly overhead and enjoy the newfound power of his blue dragon form without a care in the world. One Piece Manga readers saw the birth of a true monster, one guaranteed to survive the God Valley incident through strength alone, regardless of plot armor.

Gol D. Roger survived the incident in God Valley as the future king of the pirates

But Roger needed help defeating rocks

The King of Pirates himself, the legendary Gol D. Roger, may not have held that title during the God Valley Incident, but he was no less powerful for it. Sometimes in One Piecea title like King of Pirates is just a formal acknowledgment of what already exists, and in Roger's eyes it was probably just something cool to say. During his fight against Rocks, Roger was already at or near the top of the pirate world.

Roger is a good example of a titanic warrior who doesn't need a Devil Fruit to fight, although his son Portgas D. Ace did indeed use one via the Flame-Flame Fruit. Instead, Roger relied on the loyalty of his crewmates, such as Silvers Rayleigh and Scopper Gaban, along with his Haki. Few Haki users can rival what Roger did with that battle system, and it may have played a role in him reaching the Laugh Tale after Rock's fall.

Jaygarcia Saturn represented the five elders of the God Valley

In present tense of One Pieces events, the terrifying Five Elders were a serious threat to the Straw Hat Pirates and Dr. Vegapunk on Egghead Island. Back in the God Valley Incident, Jaygarcia Saturn was the only Elder to step onto the battlefield, but that alone was enough to send the risk levels through the roof.

Saturn used his monstrous spider-like mythical Zoan Fruit in that fight, which meant, like the pirate Kaido, Saturn didn't even need a planar armor to make it through the God Valley incident alive. Only the strongest color of Supreme King Haki can throw Saturn back in battle, and it didn't even come to that in the God Valley Incident. Without Joy Boy Haki or Gear 5 around, Saturn had an easy time at the God Valley Incident.

Captain Whitebeard was a standout among the pirates of the rocks

Captain Whitebeard, or Edward Newgate, was one of three Rocks Pirates crewmates who became emperors in later years. That fact flatters Whitebeard's character in the same way it does Kaido's, although the funny thing is, One Piece Fans are not sure that Whitebeard had his signature Tremor-Tremor Fruit as of the God Valley Incident.

Although Whitebeard did not have the amazing power of the Tremor-Tremor Fruit during the historical showdown, he still had overwhelming physical strength and endurance, and Whitebeard's Haki was undoubtedly on point as well. Such assessments are often based on assumptions and context, but it's still enough to place Whitebeard among the toughest survivors of the God Valley Incident. After all, no weakling could find his way into Rock's crew or form the legendary Whitebeard armada.

Imu arrived as a late game surprise in God Valley

No one had a chance to defeat Imu

Until now, the leader of the shadowy world government, Imu, has not known a real defeat. This bizarre character can be hampered in battle or suffer frustrating setbacks whenever pirate crews escape the Navy's clutches, but otherwise Imu has a pretty good combat record so far. In the present, Imu is Elbaph's terror, but in the God Valley Incident flashback, Imu was just as powerful.

Instead of possessing Gunko, Imu directly took control of Jaygarcia Saturn and turned into a Nightmare-like Thing which frightened friend and foe alike. Sure, Imu didn't put up much of a fight in that form, but they had Domi Reversi ready. Such a technique was why Roger and Garp had to team up to defeat the Rocks, and that's why One Piece fans might hate Imu even more now. Rocks had once been quite a likable anti-hero, but he became a devil that needed to be put down, thanks to Imu.

Charlotte Linlin did not thrive in the God Valley but still survived

She and her children formed an incredible crew over the following years

Unlike her crewmates Edward Newgate and Kaido, Rocks crew member Charlotte Linlin already had a powerful Devil Fruit of her own when the God Valley incident unfolded. She also already had a “crew” of her own through her sons and daughters, who would go on to form the Big Mom Pirates with her in the following years. But none of them joined their mother at God Valley, so Big Mom was left to fend for herself.

One Piece Strongest Old Marines

One Piece: 6 Strongest Marines of the Old Generation, Ranked

The new generation of Marines is strong, but it can't compare to these old generation legends in One Piece.

Even without powerful children like Katakuri, Cracker, and Smoothie around, Big Mom was a major player at the God Valley Incident. She's yet another character who could have survived without a plot, with the Devil Fruit's skill and Haki needed to fend off any threats to her life. But things still didn't quite go Big Mom's way, and she ended up giving the Fish-Fish Fruit: Azure Dragon Model to Kaido after they fought over it.

Monkey D. Garp endured much more than his marine son did

Jaygarcia Saturn was not the only heavy hitter representing the Navy chain of command at the God Valley Incident. Monkey D. Garp was also there, and funnily enough, his son Dragon, each of them leaving the event with different attitudes. Garp remained loyal to the Marines, while Dragon was convinced to abandon the cruel Marines and form the Revolutionary Army instead.

As for Garp's power, he was in his prime at the God Valley Incident, with sky-high Haki and nearly unmatched physical strength, speed, and stamina to sustain him in that competitive battle. That said, even peak Garp needed Roger's help to take down Rocks when the latter turned into a diabolical fiend thanks to Domi Reversi's insidious power.
